Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadyas, it is often argued that, most peoples think that the best way to improve housing problems to build tall apartments in large cities. From my perspective, i firmly believe that this is short-term best solution but this is not permanent solution for homeless persons.

On the one hand, it is mostly common in large cities because most peoples moved from rural area to urban area for finding better employment. Government should need to accomodate of homeless persons, especially in larger city. Furthermore, in cities mostly land covered already with different factories, where peoples works as a labour on monthly salary. Firstly, we should need to build tall apartments in height wise and wide wise, because both sizes saved mostly land. In tall apartments peoples interacts with each other and lived as a family, furthermore, all facilities will received in one building.

On the other hand, it is not permanent solution to provide apartments. Firstly, factories creates pollution in large cities, it becomes health problems for individuals. Secondly, in urban areas lost greenery and all time crowded in streets, mostly in shopping centres and other busiest places. Governments should need to proper planning to adjust address peoples in where area. Conversly, most peoples migrates from rural area to urban area for jobs but in the cities face home problems , and after that face health problems.

In conclusion, we should need to live in rural areas because we need fresh air for health. In rural area government should need to build homes and give jobs opportunities for rural peoples.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer takes a clear position, stating that while it is a short-term solution, it is not a permanent one. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times somewhat repetitive, which aligns with Band 5. Key points, such as the mention of factories and pollution, shift the focus away from housing into broader urban planning issues without fully connecting back to the core question of high-rise viability. Additionally, the conclusion pivots unexpectedly to advocating living in rural areas rather than directly answering the prompt regarding city apartment blocks. Overall, the task is addressed partially, earning a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at logical structure. However, the overall progression is weakened by repetitive phrasing and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic, repetitive, or mechanically applied, such as the repeated use of 'Firstly' and 'furthermore' within single paragraphs. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth semantic connections, making it harder for the reader to follow the argument seamlessly. These features are characteristic of Band 5, where some organization is present, but progression is hindered by inadequate or repetitive cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing housing and urban migration. Common words and phrases like 'employment,' 'population,' and 'pollution' are used, alongside attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'accomodate' and 'migrates.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'Nowadyas,' 'peoples' (used instead of 'people'), and awkward collocations like 'adjust address peoples' and 'home problems' instead of 'housing problems.' These lexical errors and limitations cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'factories creates,' missing prepositions, and incorrect verb forms, including 'Government should need to accomodate' and 'peoples works.' Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent throughout the response. While basic meaning is generally communicated, the high frequency of grammatical errors places the text firmly within the Band 5 descriptor, where frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader.
