Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that high-rise buildings are the best solution to provide enough homes in large cities. I completely agree with this statement as they can accomodate numerous individuals in a small location and reduce congestion problem in the cities.

Tall apartment blocks provide shelter for many pople in a particularly small area. With the growing population tall blocks of buildings are essential as they are a good solution to provide homes for large number of people. High-rise buildings can be built in a small area which reduces the amount of land usage. Due to which more number of such buildings can be constructed in the remaining area, this leads to a partial decrease in homelessness. For instance, establishing tall high-rise buildings significantly reduces the land usage, where about 100 individuals can be accomodated instead of one family.

Population in the cities expanded rapidly due to development and employment opourtunities. As a result large number of people move to the cities which increases congestion. Constructing tall apartment blocks will reduce this problem and provide home for many people. Furthermore, these buildings will have all the basic amenities. Accroding to a recent survey most people prefer to move into apartments to reduce the land uasge. This increased the quality of life on Earth.

In conclusion, I completely agree that tall apartment blocks are crucial to provide homes in large cities. They play a vital role in providing homes and reduces the usage of land. High-rise buildings also decrease congestion problem which is a major threat in large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, fully supported position that high-rise buildings are the best solution for urban housing. The response presents relevant main ideas, such as maximizing land usage, reducing homelessness, and mitigating city congestion, and extends them with supporting arguments and examples like accommodating more individuals in a smaller footprint. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive—such as mentioning land usage reduction and home provision across multiple paragraphs—and the examples, while relevant, remain somewhat generalized. This corresponds well to a Band 6.5 descriptor profile, placing it firmly at Band 6.5 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concise conclusion. Ideas are generally logically sequenced, moving from land conservation and homelessness reduction in the second paragraph to population growth and amenities in the third. However, paragraphing and referencing sometimes feel slightly mechanical, and cohesive devices are occasionally repetitive or basic, such as 'Due to which' and 'Furthermore'. There are also minor awkward transitions between sentences that prevent the organization from feeling entirely smooth. Consequently, the response fits the Band 6 descriptor profile for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms like 'high-rise buildings', 'amenities', and 'congestion'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors—such as 'accomodate' instead of accommodate, 'pople' instead of people, 'opourtunities' instead of opportunities, and 'Accroding' instead of According—along with minor word choice slips like 'land usage' where 'land use' is more natural. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes prevent the score from reaching a higher band, placing the response securely at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('buildings that can be built') and conditional or causal links. There are frequent error-free sentences, showing decent overall control; however, a number of grammatical slips and punctuation lapses are present. For example, 'Due to which more number of such buildings...' contains a fragment/comma splice issue and non-standard phrasing, and 'reduces the usage of land' in the conclusion lacks parallel structure with previous verbs. These errors do not impede communication, matching the criteria for a Band 6.0.
