Student answer (Band 5.0)
The good way to give enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. There are a lot of people who leave their homes and move to cities to get more opportunities and business to earn money. For many locals it is important to make homes for them and it is also a source of incom for them. Well, this is good to provide them a place to live but it has also some negative impacts on people's lives.
Firstly, if we talk about those people who think that enough homes in large cities is a best way to give a place to the people who left their homes and wanted to start their life in cities. They wanted to help the people but in several cases they just do this to get benefits from rents.
Secondly, it also have some drawbacks because it can be very harmful for the families who lived on the top of the floor. Their children from the top of the floor which will result in a great loss for them. For instance, if earthquack comes there will be a great loss. It did not destroy the living of people. Moreover, it result in the destruction of their laguage and also those people who are living there.
In conclusion, I disagree with it because a lot of appartments on a single building is totally a foolishness. Furthermore, it will also very harmful for the people who are living there. Its disadvantages overcome on its advantages. These are the reasons why I strongly disagree with it. It can cause a lot of problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. The student takes a clear position of disagreement. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing. For instance, the second body paragraph mentions risks to families and children on the top floor and brings up earthquakes, yet the connection between building height and the destruction of language is unclear. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments remain under-developed and rely on sweeping generalisations rather than fully extended reasoning. This performance aligns best with Band 5, where ideas are somewhat limited and development is partial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at paragraphing. However, the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by unclear referencing and abrupt shifts in logic. Transitional devices are sparse or misused, as seen with 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' introducing points that lack internal coherence. Sentences such as 'Their children from the top of the floor which will result in a great loss for them' lack clear logical links to preceding statements. Because the referencing is not always clear and the cohesive devices are somewhat inadequate, the essay sits comfortably at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, featuring phrases like 'get more opportunities' and 'place to live'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'incom' (income), 'earthquack' (earthquake), and 'laguage' (language), which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'disadvantages overcome on its advantages', but this results in awkward collocation and unnatural phrasing. This lexicon reflects a limited but minimally adequate range with frequent errors, corresponding to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are a few simple sentences that are understandable, attempts at complex sentences often result in serious structural faults and fragments, such as 'Their children from the top of the floor which will result in a great loss for them.' Punctuation and subject-verb agreement errors are frequent throughout the response, including 'it also have some drawbacks' and 'a lot of appartments on a single building is totally a foolishness.' Because grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede communication, a Band 5 score is appropriate.
