Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response presents a clear position regarding the prompt, agreeing that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The writer attempts to support this viewpoint by mentioning the space-saving nature of towers and the potential to reduce rental prices. However, the ideas remain underdeveloped and repetitive, often circling back to the same points about price reduction and living space. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 214 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the task, leading to a restricted exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic structure including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and a lack of cohesive devices. For example, sentences such as 'Today in markets, the prices are very high when these towers more build in the city, it decreases the prices' are poorly linked and confusing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. Referencing is also at times unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought smoothly throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'big', 'good', and 'prices'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'construct a tower flate blocks' and 'apertments are avilable'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, often resulting in non-standard collocations like 'the prices was very high' and 'rents are very less'. Spelling errors, such as 'flate', 'becuase', 'occupie', 'aprtments', and 'leraners', further restrict the score, as they demonstrate a lack of control over common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as in the sentence 'Today in markets, the prices are very high when these towers more build in the city, it decreases the prices'. There are pervasive errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement ('prices was', 'apartment blocks build'), and word forms. Punctuation is also erratic, with run-on sentences and missing commas. These errors frequently impede communication and place a heavy burden on the reader to decipher the intended meaning.
