Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the present age, number of apartment increases in the modern cities with the time. On that note, the good way to provide enough homes in large towns is to build tallest building. I agree with this notion without any qualms and the reasons for the same have been discussed further.

There are plethora of reasons associated behind this phenomenon. To initiate with, number of people can live at one place rather than live in a row of houses because one place can cover less number of place. For example, apartments can provide wide range of opportunity to people to live in a one building because apartment cover less land. secondly, apartment may be beeficial during raining season. In other words, apartment can protect to people from the flood.

Furthermore, relation become stronger of people due to living together as people can help to each other whenever they want in emergency situaiton. For instance, many different religion of people can live one flat and they can celebrate each other festival due to which their relation become stronger. Lastly, apartment leads to help other sector for development of hospitals or schools because government can build hospitals or schools on other lands.

In conclusion, even though, people need to pay more charge as a maintenance, I still believe that living in apartment has many advantages like less land cover, provide wide range of opportunity to live in a one building, relation become stronger to living together and government can build other hospitals or schools in available lands.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, unequivocal position on whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing in large cities. The writer presents relevant ideas to support this stance, such as land conservation, flood protection, and the promotion of social cohesion. However, these ideas are often under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the claim that apartments protect people from floods is unsubstantiated and illogical. Similarly, the points regarding community relations and land allocation for schools are stated simply without strong, detailed examples. This places the response firmly in the Band 5 to 6 range. Because the ideas are relevant and a clear position is maintained throughout, it satisfies the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive use of basic cohesive devices such as 'To initiate with', 'secondly', and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'the reasons for the same have been discussed further'. While paragraphing is attempted, the internal logic within paragraphs is weak. For example, the second body paragraph awkwardly juxtaposes land usage with flood protection. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or clumsy, leading to a mechanical feel that aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which minimally covers the task but restricts precision. The writer attempts some less common phrases, such as 'plethora of reasons' and 'qualms', but these are often used with noticeable errors in collocation and context, such as 'agree with this notion without any qualms'. There are frequent word-choice errors, including 'number of apartment increases', 'tallest building' instead of 'tall buildings', and 'beeficial'. Spelling errors like 'situaiton' also occur. These limitations mean the vocabulary is just adequate for the task, causing some difficulty for the reader, which is characteristic of a Band 5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'even though, people need to pay more charge as a maintenance, I still believe that...'. However, attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and accompanied by a high frequency of basic grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('number of apartment increases', 'apartment cover less land'), missing articles ('protect to people', 'live one flat'), and awkward prepositions. Punctuation and word forms are also weak in places. Because errors are frequent and occasionally impede readability, the grammar is best described by the Band 5 descriptors.
