Student answer (Band 6.0)
It can be argued that the contruction of tall apartment blocks can be enough to provide sufficient homes in big cities. I completely support the statement because building tall apartment blocks can be productive, given that the city has already expanded beyond it's capacity and does not have enough area to meet the demand of the houses.
Firstly, An apartment block built with the maximim number of floors in accordance to the government regulations can reside more people. Building tall apartments will allow more population stay in a single building. For example, An apartment block consisting of 25 floors with three apartments on each floor can easily accomodate 75 families. In addition to this, the amenities built can be common, which can help reduce the dependence of people on the outside activities.
Furthermore, an apartment will cost less as compared to an independent row house. This allows majority of people to own a property. In large cities, the land is expensive, which make it almost impossible for the majority of people to buy houses. Therefore, the construction of a tall building with multiple apartments will make more people stay in the same area of land as some row houses. For instance, according to the study of EstateDevelopers, the average cost of land in a large city such as Mumbai is around 1,00,000 rupees per square feet, whereas the average cost of an apartment is around 35,000 rupees per square feet.
In conclusion, taking the above points into consideration, I believe that building tall apartment blocks is the most efficient way to provide sufficient homes in large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for providing enough homes in large cities. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and a specific example regarding land costs in Mumbai. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed, such as the point about common amenities, which limits the response to a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level. The writer successfully extends their ideas, demonstrating a clear understanding of the prompt's requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving from introduction to residential capacity, then to financial benefits, and finally to a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to this', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, such as 'sufficient homes', 'government regulations', and 'independent row house'. However, there are a few spelling and word-choice errors, notably 'contruction' instead of 'construction', 'it's' instead of its possessive form, 'maximim' instead of maximum, 'reside' instead of house or accommodate, and 'stay' instead of live. These minor inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band, placing it comfortably at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'It can be argued that the construction of tall apartment blocks can be enough to provide sufficient homes in big cities.' There are some grammatical errors, such as 'allow more population stay' instead of 'allow more of the population to stay' and 'make more people stay' instead of 'enable more people to live'. Punctuation and sentence structures are generally controlled well enough that meaning is never impeded, leading to a solid Band 6.0 score.
