Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people are moving in big cities today, so there is no enough houses for everyone. Some people believe that building tall apartments blocks is the best solution to this housing problem. I only agree with this statement party. While tall building help save space, cities also need other smart plan to fix this crisis.
On the one hand building upward is very useful because large cities do not lhave eenough open land. When we build tall apartments instead of wide houses, thousands of citizens live comfortably in a small area. This makes it much easier for the city to provide public transport, clean water and electricity to everyone. For example, crowded cities like singapore use tall apartments to house millions of people successfully while keeping their natural parks clean.
On the other hand, relying only on tall buildings create new urban problems. These crowded neighborhoods often put alot of pressure on local schools, roads and hospitals. Furthersome, living in a gaint concrete blocks without enough natural lights or open spaces can make families unhappy. To fix this, government should invest in smaller town outside the main city. craeting good jobs in these areas will encourage people to move there which will naturally reduce city crowd.
In conclusion, building tall apartments is apractical and necessary way to provide homes in big cities. However, it should not be the only answer. Government must combine high-rise buildings with better development in smaller towns to create comfortable cities for every one in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer agrees only partially, acknowledging the benefits of vertical housing while arguing that other measures, such as developing smaller towns, are also necessary. Ideas are generally well supported with a relevant example, such as mentioning Singapore. While some points like the mention of pressures on infrastructure could be further extended, the main arguments are well developed and cover the prompt thoroughly. The position remains consistent throughout the essay, demonstrating a good level of task-oriented thinking and fulfilling all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. It follows a traditional four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'To fix this', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the arguments, though some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. Referencing is generally clear, ensuring that the relationships between ideas are easy to follow from the beginning to the end of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'urban problems', 'infrastructure', and 'high-rise buildings'. However, there are several noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including 'in big cities today, so there is no enough houses', 'agree with this statement party' instead of partly, 'smart plan' instead of plans, and 'gaint concrete blocks' with a spelling error. Despite these inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes like 'Furthersome' and 'apractical', the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, placing the writing comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional or concessive clauses such as 'While tall building help save space...' and 'When we build tall apartments...'. However, there are numerous grammatical errors present, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('tall building help', 'government should', 'gaint concrete blocks... can make'), missing articles ('is apractical', 'every one in future'), and spelling/word-form errors ('lhave eenough', 'craeting'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede overall communication because the writer's meaning remains recoverable. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, but the density of grammatical slips prevents the score from reaching a higher band.
