Student answer (Band 5.0)

The better method of giving sufficient homes in the urban locations is to built skyscrapers. I agree with this statement because, big cities has balloned in population and required numerous homes to accomodate. On the other hand, many job opportunities is coming up from these populated area.

Firstly, in this advanced world all the people prefering to stay in busy places. Then these cities are coverting in mega cities with amenities around the every residents, like shopping malls, hospitals, education institutions, grocery stores etc. Therefore, individuals from out skirts area migrating to these locations for better life. For example, Mumbai does not have that much of facilities in 1950's, from 1990's to 2026 it started developing, so public around the nation moved here, this leads to government constructing tall building to accomodate people. Hence, increase in residents, need proper housing system.

The another point is job opportunities published in these cities than rural areas. Multi National Companies, call centres, financial hubs establishing in urban places to hire educated staff. In villages numerous professionals were not able to obtain employment in reputed organisation and lack of proper transportation. So, they are moving to these cities in search of occupation. For instance, around the world manifold nations were well developed, but under developing countries graduates moving to these countries for better position in the company. This makes the authorities to allowing to built multistory buildings.

In conclusion, the fine living places is required to make high rise building in order to accomodate people in the city. When population boosts, homes to be needed and more vacancies in the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. The student supports this position with two main arguments: urban population growth and job opportunities. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion around job opportunities mixes domestic rural-to-urban migration with international migration rather confusingly ('graduates moving to these countries for better position'). Furthermore, some arguments lack deep elaboration and rely on sweeping generalizations. Despite these limitations, the task is addressed sufficiently to meet the criteria for Band 5.5, tending towards a Band 6 in terms of having a clear position and relevant ideas, but held back by under-developed support and occasional lack of clarity in reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division could be improved. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'The another point is', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal progression, but referencing and transitions are often awkward or inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'The another point is job opportunities published in these cities'. Furthermore, logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes disrupted by abrupt jumps in thought and unclear pronoun referencing. While the essay is coherent enough to follow overall, the mechanical and sometimes inappropriate use of cohesive devices places it firmly at a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'amenities', 'skyscrapers', and 'multinational companies'. However, the lexical range is narrow, and there are numerous errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation throughout the text. Examples include 'built' instead of 'build', 'balloned' instead of 'ballooned', 'accomodate' instead of 'accommodate', 'out skirts' instead of 'outskirts', and 'coverting' instead of 'converting'. These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited vocabulary control. While meaning is generally conveyed despite the errors, the frequency of inaccuracies prevents the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently faulty and contain serious structural errors. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('big cities has balloned', 'many job opportunities is coming up'), incorrect prepositions ('from these populated area'), and tense confusion ('did not have that much of facilities in 1950's, from 1990's to 2026 it started developing'). Punctuation is also erratic in places. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and clearly indicate a Band 5.0 level of grammatical control.
