Student answer (Band 5.5)

Homes are significant part in our lives to survive and for stay safe. Individuals who have luxury or old houses, it doesn't matter_ just having a house is enough. The goverenment should have to provide the better opportunities to individuals about having enough homes in urban areas. In my opinion, the best way to provide the chance to the residents having homes in urban areas is to build tall apartment blocks.

In developing countries, there are a lot of tall apartmnet blocks in which residents are living. From my perspective, this is the better opportunity for residents who want to live in large cities. There is also luxury and furnished flats in many large cities. Having home in urban areas provides many facilities including better water supply, good roads and also better medical facilities. In rural areas, there is not good roads and residents have not better facilities. For instance, there is no pure water people to drink that is why many people are struggling with their lives. Residents in urban areas also having the facilities of good education rather than in rural areas. There is also large retail centres and shopping mall in large cities. There is no enough better education and retail centers in rural areas.

In conclusion, houses play a crucial role in our lives to survive and to stay safe. Nowadays, there is a lot of luxury and furnish flats in urban areas. Residents have better facilities and opporunities in urban areas like good education system, better medical facilities and pure water system. The goverenment should has to provide better facilities to residents. The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide homes in large cities. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as the availability of facilities, infrastructure, and modern flats in urban areas compared to rural regions. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive, particularly the constant listing of facilities like education, medical care, and water in both the body and conclusion paragraphs. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support is somewhat over-generalized and lacks deeper elaboration. This positions the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised correctly to separate the main arguments. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. The writer relies on basic cohesive devices like 'There is also' and 'For instance' repeatedly. Referencing is also at times unclear, such as abrupt transitions between discussing developing countries and rural versus urban contrasts. The logical progression is somewhat hindered by the repetitive nature of the arguments, leading to a Band 5.5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'infrastructure' alternatives and descriptive terms like 'furnished flats' and 'developing countries'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'goverenment should have to provide', 'pure water people to drink', and 'no enough better education'. Spelling errors like 'apartmnet' and 'opporunities' also occur. While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent lexical inaccuracies keep the response at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or relative clauses ('residents who want to live in large cities'). However, there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The goverenment should has to provide' and 'residents... also having'. Articles and prepositions are also frequently misused, as seen in 'In rural areas, there is not good roads'. Because these frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty and prevent the majority of sentences from being error-free, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
