Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether building tall apartment blocks is the best solution for providing housing in large cities, presenting a clear concluding stance against them. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, characteristic of a Band 5 performance. While the writer touches on several relevant points—such as environmental concerns, pollution, traffic congestion, and infrastructure pressure—these points are generally under-developed and lack specific supporting examples. The introduction includes a lengthy preamble about modern technology and living standards that is only loosely connected to the core prompt. Overall, the task is addressed, but the arguments remain at a somewhat superficial level with broad generalizations, placing this response firmly in the Band 5 category for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organization, but overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and run-on sentences. The entire body of the essay, apart from the introduction and a fragmented conclusion, is jammed into two excessively long paragraphs that attempt to cover too many disparate ideas simultaneously. Cohesive devices are used repetitively, particularly the phrase 'due to' and 'also', which appear multiple times in close succession ('Due to many people the air...', 'Due to many people the crime rate...', 'Due to avilibility...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt cutoff at the end ('nature and beauty of nat') further disrupts the flow. These mechanical and inadequate cohesive features restrict the response to a Band 5 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently hindered by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'infrastructure', 'architacture', and 'skyscrapers', but many of these terms contain spelling errors ('beacuse', 'avalibilties', 'neccesities', 'accomodate', 'envoirnmental', 'vahicle', 'avilibility'). Furthermore, awkward phrasing such as 'load pollution' instead of 'noise pollution' and 'sky scarpers are also hides' demonstrates strain in collocation and word form. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic meaning, the high frequency of spelling and lexical inaccuracies restricts the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on positive marking for attempting a range of topic-related vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily reliant on long, run-on sentences joined by conjunctions like 'and', 'which', and 'although', resulting in a lack of clear punctuation and frequent grammatical slips. For instance, the opening sentence is a single massive clause-chain that lacks a main structural break. There are numerous grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the living standards also increases', 'the crime rate also increase'), incorrect prepositions ('take advantage from it'), and faulty sentence fragments ('As we all live in modern era...'). While a mix of simple and complex forms is attempted, the frequent errors in grammar and punctuation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this text at a Band 5 level.
