Student answer (Band 6.0)
Due to growing population in metropolis towns, many individuals believe to construct high buildings to facilitate more people's accomodation. I strongly concur to this notion, and shall discuss in details in this essay.
As the number of people in bigger towns are increasing, the land area in the city has been occupied by various sectors like businesses, agriculture, healthcare and education. Hence, to support the development in these large cities, government is actively investing in more infrastructures like bridges, roads, malls, public health-care centres and many others. As a result, there has been a shortage of required land to accomodate the people.
Therefore, to provide the living place to all the citizens, it is necessary to use the land area as and when required and prevent it from the excessive use. If all city residents start to dwell in their own bunglows and multi-storey houses, there would be surely no place left to support living of their future generation.
So, to ensure that every citizen gets fair chance to live in the bustling large cities, the primary solution of constructing multi-storey buildings is the best possible approach according to my perspective. Not only does it meet the growing population demand, but also it ensures unbiased living opportunity to all the individuals who want to reside in the large towns.
There are several other benefits associated with living in tall buildings. People residing in higher floors get the sightseeing view of the city from their window or balcony itself. Furthermore, the land shortage issue can be actively addressed by allowing accomodation of more people per unit area. Consequently, more land area will be left for essentials like hospitals, farming, schools, corporate offices, roads, parks and so on. Moreover, the air and noise pollution due to city traffic is effectively minimized at the top floors reducing potential health issues especially to the senior citizens of the town.
To conclude with, constructing tall apartments, undoubtedly, gives assurance of equal living opportunity to all the individuals who wants to live in the large urban towns. Hence, the future generations can be safeguarded from the shortage of dwelling place.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student has successfully addressed all parts of the prompt by taking a clear stance in favour of building tall apartment blocks to accommodate growing urban populations. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, particularly in paragraphs discussing land scarcity, urban planning, and the preservation of space for essential services like healthcare and education. While some arguments, such as the claim about reduced pollution on top floors, border on minor over-generalisations, they remain relevant to the broader discussion. The response satisfies the requirements of a Band 7 performance because the task is fully addressed with a clear position and well-developed supporting points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction of the problem to land allocation, solutions, and additional benefits. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'Hence', 'Therefore', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader logically through the writer's line of argument. Referencing is generally clear, contributing to an overall coherent arrangement that aligns well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, employing less common items such as 'bustling', 'urban towns', and 'excessive use'. However, there are notable spelling errors and minor collocation slips, such as 'accomodation' (instead of accommodation), 'metropolis towns' (instead of metropolitan areas or large cities), 'bunglows' (instead of bungalows), and 'sightseeing view' (instead of panoramic view). Despite these lexical inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is never impeded. These characteristics place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a willingness to incorporate structures like conditional clauses ('If all city residents start to dwell...') and relative clauses ('...all the individuals who want to reside...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'many individuals believe to construct high buildings' (instead of 'believe that constructing...'), 'I strongly concur to this notion' (instead of 'concur with'), and 'shall discuss in details' (instead of 'in detail'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication, fulfilling the criteria for Band 6.
