Student answer (Band 5.0)

The increasing population of the world is one of the major threat to the earth . As this fluctuation goes on the problem of gaining area for housing purpose this needs a great intention. The urban planing for this purpose is under consideration. This increasing population has a great impact on the earth's temperature as well.

Firstly analysing the space neede for this purpose is very short and the population is increasing rapidly. The urbanisation department is looking forward to overcome this problem. I agree with the point of view that to provide enough homes in large cities the tall apartment blocks are constructed. This construction is managed in vertical ways.

Now taking the point of view of gaining landscape the trees are cut off for this purpose. This cut down may also cause the deforestation which is not good for the earth atmosphere. It is also noticed that the deforestation is also a reason for the depletion of ozone layer. As the forests are important for the good health on thye earth as the trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen which are necessory for breath rate control. For normal breathing the atmosphere should be clear and safe.

The idea of making houses in the way of vertical is good to think about . As it consumes less land and provides a great habitat for many people. The building houses in such a way that it cover a small area and provide more houses.

But vertical housing needs a great architectural and engineering experience. The houses should be built in that way that they will contain their strength so well. The good architectural experince give great and reasonable approach to longliving societies . The urbanisation strategies develop most economic and beneficial households. It also has a great impact on the economy of the construction department.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of tall apartment blocks in providing housing in large cities, presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the student spends a considerable amount of time discussing deforestation and the ozone layer, which distracts from the core issue of urban housing and vertical construction. While the ideas are relevant, they are not fully extended with specific examples, leading to an overall band score of 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall coherence are somewhat disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic, particularly when transitioning from housing to deforestation and back to vertical architecture. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Firstly' and 'Now taking the point of view', and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'in the way of vertical'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph structure lacks clear thematic unity. Consequently, the score for this criterion is 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary usage is somewhat limited and basic for an academic response, with frequent inaccuracies in word choice and collocation (e.g., 'gaining area for housing purpose', 'breath rate control', 'longliving societies'). There are also noticeable spelling and phrasing errors like 'urban planing' and 'necesory'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'urbanisation' and 'deforestation', the inadequate control over these items results in a band score of 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of these attempts are faulty or grammatically awkward, such as 'The houses should be built in that way that they will contain their strength so well.' Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions are present throughout the text (e.g., 'one of the major threat', 'the earth atmosphere'). While the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high frequency of grammatical errors places this text firmly at a band 5.0.
