Student answer (Band 5.5)

The perfect way to give adequate homes in large cities to develop tall apartment blocks. I agree because tall vertical buildings minimal occupation of land area along with most of the resources at one place. Also it gives amazing view and peacful living.

Tall apartments saves land area and provide more resources at one place. That is to say, constructing building vertically only require an one time investment of minimal area on which you can build hundreds of homes, compared to building houses horizontally which occupy more land area of the city. Adding to this, current apartments offers extensive resources all at one place. Such as restaurants, laundry, swimming pool, gym, playing area and many more. So now you don't have to go to multiple places to find these services, which saves you time and money.

It also provides you with an amazing view of the city. That is because, tall buildings are at a high level far above the ground. They are often at a level where you can see the sky clearly along with the beautiful top view of the mordern city. People love to pay for that kind of view, one because it allowes you to breath fresh air and also it is away from all the noise of the city. For instance, imagine an apartment at 10th floor that has a window opening to early morning sun rays, the view of the morning sun and feeling of fresh air definitely will make you think that the price of this place was worth it.

In conclusion, I completely support the idea of building tall apartment blocks becuase it can provide enough home due to it's veritcal architecture and also it has one of the best views and resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the task by stating a clear position of agreement regarding tall apartment blocks. Main ideas such as land conservation, resource centralization, and views/lifestyle benefits are introduced. However, some ideas are somewhat simplistic and lack deeper extension. For instance, the discussion on resources touches upon amenities like gyms and restaurants, but the development remains brief. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the depth of argumentation aligns more closely with Band 6 descriptors, as some ideas are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged into a logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on distinct points (land/resources and views), and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'That is to say,' 'Adding to this,' and 'In conclusion,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or simplistic. Referencing is generally clear, maintaining an overall coherent arrangement throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'architecture,' 'vertical,' and 'centralization.' However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('peacful', 'mordern', 'allowes', 'becuase') and awkward word choices ('minimal occupation of land area', 'give adequate homes'). While the writer communicates their message effectively, the lexical control is inconsistent, fitting the Band 5 to Band 6 threshold, leaning towards Band 5 due to frequent spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'That is because, tall buildings are at a high level far above the ground.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing verbs or articles ('is to develop tall apartment blocks', 'an one time investment', 'current apartments offers'), and punctuation slips. These errors occur regularly across the text, though they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response squarely at Band 5.
