Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued by some people that In large cities there is only way to provide home to people is to build tall apartment blocks. Although some might disagree with notion, I completely agree. Not only because of save land and reduce housing cost, but also because of better use of city facilities.
The are multiple associated with this topic. Firstly, save land can be considered as the leading benefits of this approach. As by building tall apartment, they cover more lenght not width so less space is covered . Take the example of Japan, in Tokyo city most of people have the home because of tall apartment. Thus, this key point strongly support my agreement with this statement.
Secondly, apart from the saving land, reduce housing cost can be another major

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student has clearly stated a position agreeing with the prompt regarding tall apartment blocks. However, the response is heavily penalised for failing to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 133 words against the 250-word minimum. Furthermore, the text cuts off abruptly in the second body paragraph, leaving the argument incomplete. While the student attempts to present reasons such as saving land and reducing housing costs, these ideas are underdeveloped due to the premature ending. Based on the task descriptors for a severely truncated response that covers only parts of the task partially, this warrants a Band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates an attempt at logical organisation with the use of introductory and sequencing phrases such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, the abrupt cut-off in the middle of the second body paragraph severely disrupts the overall flow and progression of ideas. Paragraphing is initiated properly, but the incomplete nature of the response means that cohesive devices and referencing cannot be fully evaluated over a complete text. Due to the breakdown in text structure and incomplete development, the coherence and cohesion align best with a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, such as 'apartment blocks', 'housing cost', and 'city facilities'. There are noticeable lexical and word-choice errors, such as 'provide home to people' instead of 'provide homes for people', 'save land' instead of 'saving land', and 'most of people' instead of 'most people'. These errors indicate a restricted lexical range, and while communication is generally maintained in the written portion, the frequency of inaccuracies places this at a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple sentence forms and an attempt at complex structures, such as in the opening concessive clause 'Although some might disagree with notion...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('disagree with notion'), preposition issues ('provide home to people'), and awkward phrasing ('Not only because of save land'). Attempts at complex structures are often faulty. Because the errors are frequent and affect readability, the grammatical accuracy and range correspond to a Band 5.0.
