Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I completely agree with this because it will give homes to people without com promising the space for agricultural practices and farming.
The primary reason why I support this view is that it doesnot compromise the land for agriculture and farming. This is because a country's agriculture sector is the backbone. For example, due to rapid urbanization lands are being transformed into residential building leading to destruction in the agriculture sector which as a result, is causing a rise in unemployment and leading the country below the poverty line.
Another important reason why i support this view is that its important for people to have homes so making them like this will help solve house shortages problem. For example, tall building apartments will use less space and will make more houses to cope with overpopulation problems. Futhermore, it will help to eradicate the problem of homeless people.
Despite these benefits, there are also some drawbacks. One significant disadvantage is that during earthquake the tall buildings are more exposed to destructions. This can lead to more homeless people.
In conclusion, everything has both positive and negative aspects. While it provide the space for farming and agriculture it can also face destruction during natural disaster which can be overcome by using sustainable materials. But according to my perspective, its advantages are more than its drawbacks which can be controlled through proper planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position ('I completely agree with this') and supporting it with arguments regarding agricultural land preservation and housing shortages. The position is maintained throughout the response. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and brief. For instance, the first body paragraph discusses agriculture, while the second discusses housing shortages, but the reasoning is somewhat generalized and lacks deeper extension or more varied examples beyond basic assertions. Additionally, a counter-argument is introduced in the fourth paragraph regarding earthquakes, showing an awareness of alternative perspectives, but the main ideas could have been more fully elaborated to reach a higher band. Overall, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the prompt with a clear, albeit limited, development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs for supporting arguments, counter-argument, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'The primary reason why', 'Another important reason why', 'Despite these benefits', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, 'making them like this' in the third paragraph lacks a precise antecedent, and paragraph transitions feel formulaic. While the logical organization is generally easy to follow, the mechanical nature of the cohesive ties keeps this section at a solid band 6 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common items such as 'rapid urbanization', 'poverty line', 'overpopulation', and 'sustainable materials'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'com promising' (compromising), 'doesnot' (does not), 'Futhermore' (Furthermore), and 'destructions' (destruction). The phrasing 'leading the country below the poverty line' is also slightly unnatural. These lexical slips and occasional inaccuracies in word choice prevent the writing from achieving a higher score, placing it firmly in the band 6 category where communication is clear despite vocabulary limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'While it provide the space for farming and agriculture it can also face destruction...'. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. Noticeable issues include subject-verb agreement errors like 'While it provide' instead of 'provides', missing articles ('during earthquake' instead of 'during earthquakes', 'solve house shortages problem' instead of 'solve the housing shortage problem'), and punctuation errors such as missing spaces after periods. Despite these frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication, aligning well with the band 6 descriptors.
