Student answer (Band 4.5)

In my Opinon buliding a tall appartment building in large cities. Could be the best idea to give the house to homeless people and the people whom are struggling to find houses in large cities. because in large cities there are much more opportunities of jobs aa campares to small town and small cities.most of small town citizens move to big cities for the sake of good job to make their future secure and better. therefore in big cities people struggles to find houses in the big cities because the large ratio of peolpe. In big cities make this little more dificult that why. in my opinon buliding the tall apartments in big cities is so good idea. its will cover the less land. which can be easy to lives people to live their lives.

and if i will talk about myself i am belongs to the small village which is located near by a faisalabad city which is considerd the frouth large city of pakistan. i my village where i live there is not much word opportunities. but to get a good job. i applied in our main citys. and i am doing the good job in faisalabad and living in an appartment a part of a huge building. which is well furnished.becaus the ratio this big city is just insane. if i want to stay in the rental house. which has only one to two floors it will be double expensive on the other hand if we will talk about large builing appartment. which are located in large buildings it will be less expensive.and in large builing as citizen we can adjust more people at the same place. for me building large appartments is would be good idea

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task question regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer takes a clear position in favour of the statement, supported by reasons such as employment opportunities in cities and land efficiency. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with frequent over-generalisation. The use of personal experience is relevant, but the elaboration remains somewhat basic and lacks deep exploration of alternative solutions or broader urban planning perspectives. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors, where ideas are present and a position is stated, but the overall task is addressed only partially due to limited development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text suffers significantly from poor paragraphing, run-on sentences, and a lack of clear overall progression. The response is divided into only two long blocks of text that mix multiple ideas without sufficient separation. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or misused, as seen in transitions like 'and if i will talk about myself' and 'that why'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow makes it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of ideas. These features reflect Band 4 to Band 5 characteristics, leaning toward Band 4 due to the chaotic arrangement of sentences and the lack of proper paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'big cities', 'house', 'good job', and 'building'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'buliding a tall appartment building', 'give the house to homeless people', and 'the ratio this big city'. These limitations cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range. Less common lexical items are attempted with frequent inaccuracies or incorrect forms. This performance is consistent with the Band 4 descriptor, where basic and repetitive vocabulary and frequent errors constrain the precision and clarity of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mainly of simple and faulty complex sentences. There are frequent, pervasive errors in punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure throughout the text, such as 'the people whom are struggling', 'because in large cities there are much more opportunities', and 'it will be double expensive on the other hand if we will talk about large builing appartment'. Many sentences are fragment sentences or run-on structures lacking appropriate punctuation. These errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in several places, which firmly places the grammatical performance at Band 4.
