Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that whether apartments are better to live or not. Whereas many people might disagree with necessity of apartments but i strongly agree with the notion of building tall blocks of apartments.

First of all, i would say that rather than having a lane of houses, simply building apartments can save a lot of space which is quite a big problem right now. For example, in the urban areas, land has always been a scarcity. So, builders prefers constructing condos there rather than colonies.Addition to this, Most of the blocks comes with the undergroung parking which again plus point for the space issue because houses has mostly open parkings.

Another significant reason is social activities. Almost every building has actitivity rooms like Gym, indoor Swimming pools, events halls and so on. All these things proves to be really beneficial for the tenents. Moreover, these condos are cheap comparative to the houses. And they also have lifts and 24/7 security services which creates a safe environment for the senior citizens, womens and specially for the kids. Consequently, one can get a better place at cheaper rate with many services.

No doubt, these apartments have their own disadvantages like any other places for instance little congested area relative to houses or many of them are not soundproof, so late night noises from neighbours' flat could disturb sleep. Meanwhile where Houses are big relative to blocks but the second comes with many additional features which is like hitting a jackpot.

In conclusion, I strongle believe that living in apartments are far better than owning a house would ever be.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear stance that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing. The writer presents relevant main ideas such as space-saving benefits, underground parking, and shared social amenities like gyms and swimming pools. They also acknowledge counterarguments regarding lack of soundproofing and congested areas, which helps balance the discussion. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and would benefit from deeper extension and more specific real-world examples rather than brief generalisations. For instance, the discussion on senior citizens and children could be elaborated further to fully satisfy higher band criteria. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, earning a band score of 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing separate ideas, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'First of all', 'Addition to this', 'Another significant reason', and 'In conclusion', though some of these transitional phrases are slightly mechanical or unidiomatic, such as 'Addition to this' missing a preposition. Referencing is mostly clear, but occasional minor slips in linking ideas prevent the essay from achieving a higher band. The logical progression is generally maintained throughout the text, resulting in a solid band 6.0 performance.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'scarcity', 'condos', 'tenants', and 'congested'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and grammatical form errors throughout the text, including 'comparative to' instead of 'compared to', 'undergroung parking', 'actitivity rooms', and 'strongle believe'. Furthermore, the lowercase 'i' is used multiple times instead of the capitalized 'I'. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'whether apartments are better to live or not' (awkward phrasing), 'Most of the blocks comes' (plural/singular mismatch), 'houses has' (plural subject with singular verb), and 'living in apartments are' (gerund phrase taking singular verb). Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as lowercase 'i' and missing commas, are also present. These errors frequently cause minor distraction, aligning the grammar with a band 5.5.
