Student answer (Band 6.5)
In metro cities, building highrises is the best way to incorpotate homes to everyone. This essay completely agrees with this idea because it can easily accommodate large number of people on a limited piece of land and remaining land that can be used for other important purposes.
To begin with, it is a fact that industrialisation has made so many people from different regions come to the cities in search of better lifestyle and employment. Increasing number of people has raised a problem of accommodating higher number of people in comparatively smaller area. That is why multi-story apartment blocks can provide enough homes because it take considerably less space on land by placing more than one apartment block on top of the other. For example, in India, mumbai contains many highrise apartments that accomodate large population in a city central.
Another major reason is that, land has so many use cases other than just providing homes. Using tall apartment blocks can spare land area that can be used for different business purposes such as IT companies, restaurants, hotels and many more. Cities with such facilities not only provide employment and a good lifestyle but also contribute towards nations economy by becoming a metropolitan city because it can accommodate large number of people and create jobs for them as well. For instance, bangalore, a metro city in India has become an IT hub for people all over the nation because it had capabilities to provide places to stay and that was achieved by making highrises.
To conclude, increasing number of people migrate to the places with potential industrialisation possibilites. Building tall apartment blocks in such cities is the best way to provide enogh houses to people because it uses small region to accommodate large population and remaining lands can be used to develop such cities further.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses the task by taking a firm position that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The student supports this stance with relevant arguments, such as the efficient use of limited land and the creation of space for commercial purposes like IT hubs and businesses. Examples are provided, referencing cities like Mumbai and Bangalore to illustrate the points. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise, and ideas could have been slightly more extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the prompt is fully addressed with a clear development of ideas throughout the essay, aligning well with the requirements of a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs supporting the main thesis, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, such as 'To begin with', 'Another major reason is that', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the structure of the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct ideas into logical blocks. While referencing is generally clear, some minor mechanical connections slightly affect the overall flow, placing the performance comfortably within the Band 7 range for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'industrialisation', 'accommodate', 'metropolitan', and 'capabilities'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'incorpotate' instead of 'incorporate', 'mumbai' with a lowercase letter, 'accomodate' with a missing 'm', and awkward phrasing like 'land has so many use cases'. These lexical errors and occasional inaccuracies in spelling and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band, placing it at a Band 6 level where vocabulary is adequate for communication despite some errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'because it can easily accommodate large number of people on a limited piece of land and remaining land that can be used for other important purposes'). There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('a large number', 'the remaining land'), subject-verb agreement issues ('remaining land that can be used' / 'it take considerably'), and punctuation slips. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty, which is characteristic of a Band 6 score.
