Student answer (Band 6.5)
In metro cities, building high-rises is the best way to incorporate homes to everyone. This essay completely agrees with this idea because it can easily accommodate a large number of people on a limited piece of land and the remaining land can be used for other important purposes.
To begin with, it is a fact that industrialisation has made so many people from different regions come to the cities in search of better lifestyle and employment. An increasing number of people has raised a problem of accommodating a higher number of people in comparatively smaller area. That is why multi-story apartment blocks can provide enough homes because it takes considerably less space on land by placing more than one apartment block on top of one another. For example, in India, Mumbai contains many highrise apartments that accommodate a large population in a city centre.
Another major reason is that, land has so many uses other than just providing homes. Using tall apartment blocks can spare land area that can be used for different business purposes such as IT companies, restaurants, hotels and many more. Cities with such facilities not only provide employment and a good lifestyle but also contribute towards the nation's economy by becoming a metropolitan area because it can accommodate a large number of people and create jobs for them as well. For instance, Bangalore, a metro city in India has become an IT hub for people all over the nation because it had the capability to provide places to stay and that was achieved by making high-rises.
To conclude, an increasing number of people migrate to the places with potential industrialisation possibilites. Building tall apartment blocks in such cities is the best way to provide enough houses to people because it uses a small region to accommodate a large population and the remaining lands can be used to develop such cities further.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with relevant arguments. The writer presents two main ideas: that high-rises accommodate large populations on limited land, and that the remaining land can be utilised for other economic purposes like businesses. These ideas are extended with examples, such as Mumbai and Bangalore in India, though the examples border on being slightly generalised. The position is maintained throughout the essay. According to the Band 7 descriptors, the writer addresses all parts of the task with a clear position, although the supporting examples and extensions could be slightly more fully developed to reach higher bands. Overall, the task response is solid and meets the core requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the first body paragraph on population density, the second body paragraph on economic land use, and a neat conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'That is why', and 'Another major reason' are employed to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately. While referencing and cohesion are generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, which prevents the response from achieving a higher band. Nevertheless, the logical structure is well maintained, aligning comfortably with the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms such as 'industrialisation', 'metropolitan area', 'accommodate', and 'infrastructure-related concepts'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items, but also noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'incorporate homes to everyone' instead of 'provide housing for everyone' and 'potential industrialisation possibilites' containing a spelling error. Despite these minor flaws, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly without impeding communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'This essay completely agrees with this idea because it can easily accommodate a large number of people on a limited piece of land.' However, there are grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'An increasing number of people has raised a problem' (subject-verb agreement error with 'has' instead of 'have'), and 'land has so many uses' where an article is missing or plurality is misused. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 7, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
