Student answer (Band 6.5)
In metro cities, building high-rises is the best way to incorporate homes to everyone. This essay completely agrees with this idea because it can easily accommodate a large number of people on a limited piece of land and the remaining land can be used for other important purposes.
To begin with, it is a fact that industrialisation has made so many people from different regions come to the cities in search of a better lifestyle and employment. An increasing number of people have raised the problem of accommodating a higher number of people in comparatively smaller area. That is why multi-story apartment blocks can provide enough homes because they take considerably less space on a land by placing more than one apartment block on top of one another. For example, in India, Mumbai contains many high-rise apartments that accommodate a large population in the city centre.
Another major reason is that land has so many uses other than just providing homes. Using tall apartment blocks can spare land area that can be used for different business purposes such as IT companies, restaurants, hotels and many more. Cities with such facilities not only provide employment and a good lifestyle but also contribute towards the nation's economy by becoming a metropolitan area because it can accommodate a large number of people and create jobs for them as well. For instance, Bangalore, a metro city in India has become an IT hub for people all over the nation because it had the capability to provide places to stay and that was achieved by making high-rises.
To conclude, an increasing number of people migrate to the places with potential industrialisation possibilities. Building tall apartment blocks in such cities is the best way to provide enough houses to people because it uses a small region to accommodate a large population and the remaining lands can be used to develop such cities further.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses all parts of the task, taking a strong and consistent position from the introduction through to the conclusion. The writer presents two main supporting arguments: that high-rises accommodate large populations on limited land, and that sparing land allows for commercial and economic development. These ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as Mumbai and Bangalore in India. Although the reasoning is somewhat general in places, the position is well-developed throughout, fulfilling the criteria for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently linked, starting with a clear introductory stance followed by distinct body paragraphs that each advance a fresh point. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'To begin with', 'Another major reason', and 'To conclude'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall structure is logical, even though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel a bit standard or mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as 'industrialisation', 'accommodate', 'metropolitan area', and 'migrate'. There are attempts to use less common lexical items with general awareness of collocation, though occasional inaccuracies exist, such as 'incorporate homes to everyone' instead of 'provide homes for everyone' or 'spare land area'. However, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several error-free sentences, alongside a few minor grammatical inaccuracies such as 'on a land' instead of 'of land' and 'migrate to the places with potential industrialisation possibilities'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the errors present do not impede communication, matching the Band 6 descriptor well.
