Student answer (Band 5.0)

yes, I agree with the statment to build tall appartment blocks to provide enough homes in large cities.

If we look most people are building there own house,so if every one start building there own house it will need more land. If we give all land to houses so the agriculture field will comes too its end. Agriculture is one of the most important part of the country. In every country agriculture department is the back bone of their economics. so if build more house the agriculture department will comes to its danger. so if we make one tall appartments many people can live there.

Building a house is every expensive now a days so if we build tall appartments blocks these are much cheaper than building your own house .

Many poor familys who cant affoard there own house appartment is the best option for them because appartments are chepeare and can be easily owned.

In my village most of the people were building their own house but there was one problem for them the land was comming to its end and the price of the land was touching sky,so they figure out the problem and start building large appartments blocks so that every one who cant afford their house they can afford appartment. and this was also good for the agriculture department many farmers who was lack of land they start their farming in the free land.

in large cities houses are the most important issue if we build appartment for peoples so people can live easily in the appartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position agreeing with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer develops relevant ideas surrounding agricultural preservation, cost-effectiveness, and housing affordability for poorer families. However, the development tends to be repetitive and relies heavily on generalisations and personal anecdotes, such as mentioning 'In my village', which is less suited to an academic essay. Some arguments are slightly under-developed due to the lack of broader supporting evidence. Overall, it satisfies the basic requirements of the task, earning a band score of 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a basic logical organisation with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, paragraphing is poorly managed; the main body is essentially compressed into a single bulky block of text with inadequate separation of distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes inaccurate, relying heavily on simple connective words like 'so' and 'because' to link clauses. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'figure out the problem and start building'. The overall progression of ideas lacks smooth transitions, resulting in a somewhat mechanical flow. This corresponds to a band score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing words like 'house', 'appartment', 'land', and 'building'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'statment', 'appartment', 'famils', 'affoard', 'chepeare', and 'comming'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'agriculture department' and 'economics', inaccuracies in word choice and collocation are noticeable. The range is minimally adequate for the task, but lexical limitations and spelling mistakes occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, justifying a band score of 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'most people are building there own house', 'agriculture is one of the most important part', and 'many farmers who was lack of land'. Punctuation is weak, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and misuse of commas. Although meaning is usually discernible despite the frequent errors, the control of grammar is limited, leading to a band score of 5.0.
