Student answer (Band 5.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether the effective method to make enough homes available in major cities is to construct High-rise apartment blocks. I completely agree with this statement. I also believe that making these homes affordable are very important.
0n the one hand, in metroplotain cities land is quite expensive Therefore, individuals could not afford to construct homes. For instance, in big cities of Pakistan citizens prefer to buy homes instead of constructing by their own They consider it quite budget friendly Moreover, governments should build appartments vertically instead of horizantly This will help considerably in the growth of economy. The other benefit of citizens who lives in rural areas because of high cost of homes could easily purchase homes in big cities.
Subsequently constructing appartments vertically reduce spreading land which helps a lot to make city more presentable. Furthermore the citizens who are living far from the city and facilities like, healthcare, better job, good education could enjoy these facilities by purchasing houses in urban areas. Moreover they could live their dream life
in conclusion, although

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the prompt by stating an agreement with the idea of building high-rise apartments to provide homes, and briefly mentions affordability. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 179 words, and stops abruptly in the conclusion ('in conclusion, although'). Because of this severe under-length and lack of full idea development, the task is only partially addressed. Ideas regarding land cost and urban migration are introduced but remain under-developed and lack sufficient support. To improve, the student must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully discussed with extended examples and meet the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organization, separating ideas into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete nature of the response. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or missing entirely, evidenced by mechanical transitions like '0n the one hand' (with a numeric zero) and 'Subsequently constructing appartments'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, disrupting the logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it hard to follow the exact line of argument. To enhance coherence, the student should use a wider variety of cohesive links naturally and ensure every paragraph contains a complete, cohesive thought leading to a full conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited, minimally adequate vocabulary for the task. Words related to the topic such as 'metropoltain', 'appartments', and 'horizantly' contain spelling errors. While there are attempts to use less common items like 'budget friendly' and 'healthcare', lexical control is weak, and repetitive phrasing is noticeable (e.g., repeating 'homes' and 'buy homes'). Word choices occasionally impede smooth reading, such as 'spreading land'. To reach a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and employ more precise phrasing suited to an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a mix of simple and somewhat complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are noticeable errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'making these homes affordable are very important' and 'the benefit of citizens who lives'. Punctuation is frequently neglected, particularly with missing periods and capitalization errors (e.g., '0n the one hand', 'Therefore, individuals could not afford...'). Complex structures are often faulty, and the premature ending leaves sentences grammatically incomplete. To improve, the writer must focus on reducing basic grammatical errors and ensuring precise punctuation and sentence boundaries.
