Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many large cities have a problem beacasue there is not enough housing for everyone. Some people think building tall apartment blocks is the best way to slove this problem. I completely agree with this statement because of the large apartments gives the amount of living space and reduces the house maintaince costs.
To begin with, in number of large cities have a tall housing blocks it's creates multiple accomodation space for the individuals. Many cities also have a private houses they provides the separate living facilities but reduces the landspaces for the others. So the authorities started the work on the multiple accomodation spaces, and build the tall apartment blocks instead of the single story house. Therefore, a number of people can have a accomodation space that's reason i belives that build tall aprtment blocks provide a number of homes in large cities. For example, in mumbai have a not enough housing spaces therefore mumbai goverment focus on the build tall apartment block to provide sufficient homes for the people.
Moreover, in a tall apatment blocks reduces the housing maintaince costs. In a single story house have a high maintaince costs like the garden maitaince, in house cleaning and many more costs are very high. In a tall aprtment blocks also have a maitaince costs but the costs are divided by othere residentials so the indirectly the maintaince costs are quite low as compared the single independance house. Thus, i completely with the side of the build tall apartment blocks. For instance, in foriein coustires like canada, uk, australia many students are lives in aprtment instead of the single house which reduces their housing costs.
In conclusion, a tall aprtment blocks provides a number of accomodation and reduces the living costs, so the in large cities have a number of tall apartment buildings which provides the enough housing space for the people. I totally agree with this essay to build the multiple story blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The main ideas, such as living space and reduced maintenance costs, are relevant and supported with examples, such as reference to Mumbai and countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with over-generalised statements. For instance, the argument regarding maintenance costs is briefly explained but lacks deeper economic or urban planning insight. The response adequately covers all parts of the task, meeting the criteria for Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. There is an overall logical progression, moving from living space to maintenance costs. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty or mechanical. The student relies heavily on basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', and referencing is often unclear or awkward, such as 'that's reason i belives that build tall aprtment blocks' and 'the indirectly the maintaince costs'. Paragraphing is used, but internal transitions can be clunky, and repetition affects the overall flow. These features place the response firmly in Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to housing and urban living, such as 'accommodation space', 'maintenance costs', and 'residential'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, morphology, and spelling throughout the essay. Examples include 'beacasue' for because, 'slove' for solve, 'maintaince' for maintenance, 'landspaces' for landscapes, and 'foriein coustires' for foreign countries. These noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word formations occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors occurring across almost every sentence. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('a number of large cities have a tall housing blocks it's creates'), incorrect verb forms ('i belives that build tall aprtment'), missing articles ('in mumbai have a not enough housing spaces'), and faulty relative clauses. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, these persistent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
