Student answer (Band 5.5)

Providing sufficient housing for growing population of large cities become major challenge so constructing tall residential building is the most effective way to overcome housing problem. I partially agree with this statement and in this essay, I will going to discuss both the statement.

First and foremost, high rise building alone can not only solve the problem of housing shortage because they can very expensive to construct and maintain also there are some rule and regulation over the residency which people have to follow. Moreover, apartment having limited parking facilities apart from this privacy is one of the main concern. Additionally, if people want to renovate or change the color of exterior they need to get permission from residency. In residency apartments had one color theme the can not allow people to change its color.

On the other hand, high rise building can accommodate more people which solving the problem of providing homes to growing population. Additionally, Cities have limited land space. So, construct building on a small chunk of land so people can find accommodation at affordable rate because multi story building have nearly 4 appartements per floor so in residency more than 100 families can able to live. for instance, cities like Mumbai having higher price of property because of availability of land so the high rise building very beneficial in such cases. Residencies collect maintenance fees per apartment for regular maintenance and which usually includes gym, swimming and playground and other type of commodities.

In conclusion, tall apartment can help to solve housing shortage in large cities, they make efficient use of limited land, provide homes for a large number of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by presenting a partial agreement with the statement regarding tall apartment blocks. The student introduces relevant ideas, such as the high construction costs, parking limitations, and privacy concerns in high-rise buildings, while balancing these against the space-saving benefits and high capacity offered in densely populated cities like Mumbai. However, several ideas remain under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the mention of rules, regulations, and color themes is repetitive and lacks a fully realized explanation. The position is stated clearly in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Because all parts of the prompt are addressed and a distinct stance is presented, the response aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas, moving from a nuanced introduction to drawbacks, benefits, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to divide the essay into logical sections, including a clear introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The student relies on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'Additionally', 'First and foremost', and 'Moreover' without always establishing smooth semantic links. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'discuss both the statement' and 'the can not allow people'. These mechanical cohesive ties and occasional referencing issues place this criterion solidly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate ideas about housing shortages and urban density. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'renovate', 'accommodation', and 'maintenance', but these attempts are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and morphology, such as 'high rise building alone can not only solve', 'appartements', and 'commodities' used to mean amenities. There are also noticeable spelling slips ('appartements') and word form errors. The lexical range is minimally sufficient for the prompt, fitting the Band 5 descriptors where noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures like conditional or relative clauses. However, these attempts often contain grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('growing population... become', 'apartment having', 'cities like Mumbai having'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'in this essay, I will going to discuss both the statement'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences lacking appropriate separation. While communication is not completely impeded, the frequent grammatical errors across sentences place this performance in Band 5.
