Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argued that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution to meet the demand of required homes in big cities. This essay strongly agrees with this statement because apartments consume less space in order to be constructed, and apartments reduce deforstation, which is a environmentally safer option.
Not having enough space for homes is a major problem in a large cities and causing unnecessary expansion of cities to accomodate the city's population. An effective solution to this problem is the construction flats over homes. Flats consume relatively less space than homes but they can accomodate multiple people in one places on different floors of the building. This is to say the accomodation problem for individuals in large cities can be overcomed by constructing multiple flats all over the cities. For example, Singapore has accomodated most of its lapeople in large flats , when its citizen moved to large cities for better life in 2009.
Furthermore, it is likely to be observed that realstate companies expand the city to construct more homes to accomodate the city's population, which is one of the major reasons of deforstation. if the construction of tall apartments blocks take place, it will not only reduce the deforstation but also accomodate the large number of people in one place. For example, The Lahore, a city of pakistan, was expanding and number of trees were cutting down in 2012, but the government inference led the consutruction companies to construct more apartments than home to overcome the problem of homeless people in large cities.
In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks is the best method to facilitate individuals with homes in large cities, and I agree with this because flats can be constructed on small spaces compare to homes and reduce deforstation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly and takes a clear position agreeing that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing. The main ideas are supported with explanations and examples, such as the mention of Singapore and Lahore. However, the development of ideas leans towards over-generalisation, and some points regarding environmental impact are somewhat repetitive. The student satisfies the requirements of this criterion at a Band 6 level, as all parts of the task are addressed, though the supporting examples lack depth and contain minor inaccuracies in real-world application.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear overall progression of ideas, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise, and some cohesive relationships feel mechanical. Overall, the structural framework is sufficient for a Band 6, maintaining clear coherence despite minor lapses in logical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'deforestation', 'accomodate', and 'realstate'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'deforstation', 'accomodate', 'overcomed', 'lapeople', 'realstate', 'pakistan', 'inference', and 'consutruction'. Furthermore, word choices occasionally show poor collocation, such as 'construction flats over homes'. While communication is not impeded, these frequent mechanical inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, utilizing relative clauses and conditional forms (e.g., 'if the construction of tall apartments blocks take place, it will not only reduce...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('apartments consume less space in order to be constructed, and apartments reduce...'), missing articles ('in large cities' vs 'a large cities'), and awkward prepositional phrases. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse, placing the response firmly at a Band 5.0.
