Student answer (Band 4.5)
In urban areas, most people live in vertical buildings due to less space. Some people think that is is best way to manage city population. I agree with this statement but we can con ignore other effective ways which will be explain in the sbuequent fragments.
On the one hand, live in tall building apartments is very effective way for people who want to live in urban areas. Because it consume less space and we alsobuild vertical building with too much flats. In cities most of people are international student and workers they come form villages and far places. Therefore, they save travelling cost and live in apartment. For instance, i n Mumbai we cam see too much tall building because there were varuious people and students so givernment and most of the business man construct tall buildings to manage population.
On the other hand, there are other effective masears such as provide transport system. If government provide best and also fast survice for travlers they for near places people use it and they alsotravel daily and save flat rent and also food expensive. To exemplify, In canada surry is the big city but most of people travel daily from rural villages so is the another way to manage population in cities.
In conclusion, I firmly agree with this statement to build tall building to manage accommodation but this single msasure can nao manage all population other notion are also important.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the extent of agreement with building tall apartment blocks, but it falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement (containing only 240 words). This negative impact requires a penalty under the band descriptors. The student outlines a clear position ('I agree with this statement') and brings in supporting ideas, such as saving space and reducing travel costs, while also introducing an alternative counter-argument regarding transportation systems. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the example regarding Mumbai is generalized, and the second body paragraph introduces transport as an alternative rather than fully defending the primary premise. Because the response is under-length and the ideas are only partially extended, it aligns best with Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with basic introductory, body, and concluding sections. There are attempts to use standard signposting phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the progression is frequently disrupted by cohesion errors and repetitive phrasing. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'so is the another way to manage population'. Furthermore, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inadequate, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences within the body paragraphs. While there is a discernible organizational structure, the lack of smooth progression and flawed cohesive control place this criterion firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited range that is minimally adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on simple terms like 'big city', 'tall building', and 'manage population'. There are also frequent word choice and spelling errors, such as 'con ignore' (cannot ignore), 'sbuequent', 'masears' (measures), 'surry' (Surrey), and 'msasure' (measure). While some attempts are made to use less common vocabulary like 'urban areas', these are often marred by inaccuracies or awkward collocations ('vertical buildings due to less space'). Because the vocabulary is restricted and contains frequent errors that occasionally impede understanding, it meets the requirements for Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout the response. Frequent errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('most of people are', 'government and most of the business man construct'), missing articles ('in Mumbai we cam see too much tall building'), and tense/verb form errors ('will be explain', 'we alsobuild'). Punctuation is also problematic, leading to run-on sentences and fragments. The high frequency of grammatical errors often strains the reader and restricts the complexity of successfully executed structures. Therefore, this performance corresponds to Band 4.0.
