Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response clearly states a position in the opening sentence ('I agree with the statement that the best way to provide enough home in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks'), and touches on relevant ideas such as land preservation and agricultural needs. However, the text suffers from two major issues: it is severely under-length at only 118 words (falling well short of the 250-word minimum requirement), and the ideas are left extremely rudimentary and under-developed due to this truncation. The argument breaks off mid-sentence ('that is how we cam'). Because the length requirement is not met and the response is incomplete, it cannot progress beyond Band 4.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text demonstrates some basic organisational structure by stating an introduction and attempting to link points regarding land usage and technology. However, paragraphing is not properly managed, as the entire response is written as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal, simplistic, and repetitive (e.g., 'We have to', 'We can see', 'We can make'). Furthermore, the abrupt ending ('that is how we cam') disrupts the overall progression and logical flow of the writing. These weaknesses place the response firmly in the band 4 category for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on everyday words such as 'home', 'land', 'people', and 'problem'. There are noticeable word choice and pluralisation errors, such as 'enough home' instead of 'enough homes', 'residance' instead of 'residence', and 'managable' instead of 'manageable'. Attempts to use slightly less common vocabulary, such as 'atmosphere' (misused for vertical space) and 'stablish', show limited control and cause some confusion for the reader. The lexical range is minimally adequate at best, corresponding to a band 4 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures (e.g., 'As our land is limited , we cannot make more land...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, spelling ('residance', 'stablish'), and sentence completion (the essay finishes with a fragment). There are missing articles and incorrect prepositions throughout ('use the the atmosphere'). Because errors are frequent and the writing cuts off mid-sentence, the grammatical range and accuracy are restricted to band 4.
