Student answer (Band 5.5)

In large cities, increased population require enough accomodation. One of the ways could be to build blocks having numerous appartments.

In my prespective, this is one of the most suitable options. There are numerous advantages of implementing this option. Tall appartment blocks accomodate numerous families and moreover less space is occupied by them if we think about building and accomodating families in seperate houses.

I have been part of society where residential area compromises of tall blocks having eight apprartments on one side and eight opposite to them. This is a residential society in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan and it comes under CDA( capital developmental authority). We lived there comfortably for about 8 years.

Appartment options are suitable for moderate size family and best residence for small family. By developing such residential socities we can free space on land and use it to build other useful projects like hospital or schools.

Appartment system helps in socialization as well. People live in close proximity as compared to big houses where they are not even aware who lives next door.

Disadvantages count for lesser percentage but they are also important to look up to. Privacy is one of the major concern that is witnessed in such residential spaces. Secondly, its very important who lives next to your appartment or who is part of your neighbourhood. This is the major point of concern for parents of young kids. Kids are highly observing and copy cat creatures. So the society in which they are moving matters alot. Last but not the least, appartment ownership costs very high now a days in most of the large cities which badly influence people to move towards waiting few more years , saving little more and getting own house, while keeping their privacy maintained.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the prompt regarding tall apartment blocks. The main ideas are supported with relevant explanations and personal experience from Islamabad, though some arguments tend to over-generalize, such as the social isolation in separate houses. The response meets the minimum word count requirement and develops both advantages and disadvantages, placing it comfortably in Band 6. To achieve a higher score, the student should ensure that all main ideas are more thoroughly extended with broader societal examples rather than relying heavily on personal anecdote.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established early on. Paragraphing is utilized, grouping advantages and disadvantages into separate sections, which aids readability. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. Transitions between paragraphs and sentences can feel abrupt, and referencing is not always clear (e.g., jumping between the Islamabad example and general statements without smooth signposting). Cohesive devices are somewhat basic rather than used flexibly throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proximity,' 'socialization,' and 'privacy.' However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'accomodation' instead of accommodation, 'appartments' and 'appartment' instead of apartments, 'prespective' instead of perspective, 'socities' instead of societies, and 'apprartments' instead of apartments. While these do not heavily impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 due to the frequency of basic spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'By developing such residential socities we can free space on land and use it to build other useful projects like hospital or schools.' There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including subject-verb agreement issues ('increased population require') and missing plural markers ('hospital or schools', 'major concern that is witnessed'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also occur, such as the lowercase 'i' and spacing before punctuation marks. The frequency of these errors places the grammar in the Band 5.5 category.
