Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance in agreement with the statement and attempting to provide reasons and examples. The writer explores arguments related to housing costs, access to amenities, and psychological drawbacks such as feelings of isolation. However, the ideas lack full development and suffer from frequent sweeping generalisations and underdeveloped examples, such as the vague reference to a study or the specific legal claim about India. Furthermore, some arguments become slightly repetitive or unclear due to expression issues. Despite these limitations, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a band score of 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently disrupted by awkward linking and mechanical transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'To explain', and 'On the other hand' which are sometimes misused or overused. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronouns whose antecedents are muddled, and paragraphing conventions are marred by spacing errors around punctuation. Overall arrangement provides a basic coherent structure, but cohesion is faulty and repetitive, aligning with a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and contains numerous basic spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'sutibale', 'provided', 'esthablished', 'foundamental', 'develop' instead of 'developed', 'urben', 'bentifit', 'swmming', 'maintances', 'isloated', 'dose', and 'deprasion'. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary like 'accommodation' and 'predominantly', the high frequency of lexical and spelling inaccuracies causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and occasionally obscures meaning, placing the vocabulary firmly at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and prepositions, such as 'it help individuals to get', 'is cost much more', 'apartment were bulit , it cost less', 'people have do regulary maintain', and 'might can into street'. Punctuation is also erratic, with spaces improperly placed before commas and periods. While basic meaning is sometimes conveyed, frequent errors cause difficulty and grammatical accuracy is poor, justifying a band 5.0.
