Student answer (Band 6.0)

In may ciites there are not enough houses for eveyone. Many people think building tower apartment is the best way to solve this problem. I agree with this idea for the most part, but I also think other solutions are needed.

First of all, tall apartment buildings save a lot of space. In big cities, land is very expensive and hard to find. By building up into the sky, workers can build hundreds of homes on one small piece of land. Also, when people live in tall buildings near the center of the city, they live closer to their jobs. Foe example, places like hattiban and shankhamul area, most of the people are living in the apartments and they have all facilities to visit easily like schools, and jobs. This means they do not have to travel long distances every day, which saves time, money, and gas.

However, tall building have also disadvanatges. Building them costs a lot of money. Also, living high in a big building with many neighbors can be noisy and crowded. People who live in tall towers often do not have gardens or parks nearby, which can make them feel stressed. Because of these problems, city leaders should not only build tall towers. They should also build smaller houses outside the city and build fast trains so people can travel easily.

In colcusion, I mostly agree that tall apartments tower are the best way to give many people a place to live in big cities. However, cities should also build parks and good transport so that everyone can live comfortably.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The writer agrees for the most part while introducing supplementary solutions such as smaller houses outside the city and improved transport. Main ideas are extended and supported with relevant arguments about space-saving, cost, and infrastructure, as well as a specific local example regarding residential areas. While the example relies on personal or regional knowledge rather than global statistics, it successfully illustrates the point about facilities and proximity to jobs. The position remains clear throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, comfortably satisfying the descriptor for addressing all parts of the task with a clear stance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately and separates the introduction, body paragraphs focusing on advantages and disadvantages, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'First of all', 'Also', 'However', and 'In colcusion'. Although referencing is occasionally simple and some connectors are standard, the progression of thought from the space-saving benefits of tall buildings to their drawbacks and alternative solutions is easy to follow. This aligns well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors, showing clear logical organisation despite minor mechanical transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'infrastructure' concepts, 'disadvantages', and 'comfortably'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'may ciites' for 'many cities', 'eveyone' for 'everyone', 'tower apartment' for 'tower apartments', 'Foe example' for 'For example', and 'colcusion' for 'conclusion'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical resource displayed is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or dependent clauses ('When people live in tall buildings near the center of the city, they live closer to their jobs'). There are several grammatical and mechanical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('tall building have also disadvanatges'), spelling mistakes, and typographical errors. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the core arguments remain easily understandable. The structural variety and control demonstrate the characteristics of a Band 6 response, where a mix of simple and complex structures is used alongside some persistent errors.
