Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that best way to make apartments to providing sufficient houses for large proportion of population in urban areas instead of developing separate private houses. I agree with this statement to a large extent, as the benefits of building apartments blocks generally overweigh its limitations.

On the one hand, there are several advantages of developing tall buildings with apartments blocks for numbers of individuals. Firstly, tall buildings take less land for living of large population, in contrast to separate houses specially in bigger cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad and residents have to bear less rents and expenses. Due to the over population, sometimes people have face problems to searching house with all facilities in a moderate budget. Since, rates of houses are extremmely high due to over demand in urban areas. Subsequently. buildings provide basic facilities such as security, gym, elevators, and parking. By developing these buildings, there are remaining enough space for gardens, parks and roads which are largely essential for the healthy and quality lifestyles of the citizens.

On the other hand, there are some reasons for those people who believe houses are best options for large families. Such as apartments provide less privacy, living in apartments residents can hear noises from their neighours because they live very closely. In comparison of houses, aprtments are smaller in size that would not be suitable for large households.

To sum up, few individuals support in favour of separate houses because of priavcy conserns. Whereas, I believe apartments provide environment benefits as well as these are social and economic friendly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing. The writer covers both sides of the argument, discussing the economic and spatial benefits of high-rise living as well as drawbacks such as privacy concerns and limited space for large families. Ideas are generally well-supported with examples like citing specific cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, though some points are slightly repetitive or under-developed. For instance, the discussion on family size could be extended further. However, the overall position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. Given the adequate development and clear stance, it fits comfortably into Band 6.0 towards 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, following a standard introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts in argument, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Since, rates of houses are extremmely high' followed by 'Subsequently. buildings provide...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but internal cohesion within paragraphs occasionally falters due to punctuation errors and fragmented sentence structures. Overall, the logical progression is clear enough to earn a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'over-population', 'urban areas', and 'basic facilities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'extremmely', 'overweigh' instead of 'outweigh', 'priavcy conserns', and 'aprtments'. Collocations are sometimes unnatural, like 'social and economic friendly' instead of 'socially and economically friendly'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 because precision is lacking and spelling mistakes recur.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structures (e.g., 'Since, rates of houses are extremmely high due to over demand in urban areas.'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation (misplaced periods separating clauses), subject-verb agreement ('benefits... generally overweigh'), and prepositions ('In comparison of houses'). Complex sentences often contain errors that can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this performance solidly at Band 5.5.
