Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, tall apartment blocks in large cities have become a widely discussed issue. While some people consider this development beneficial, others believe that it may create certain problems. This essay will discuss the main aspects of this issue and explain why large cities provide enough home to build tall apartment blocks

One major point to consider is that building block apartment in large cities provide enough homes. This primary because mostly people cannot afford enough money to buy homes. People that move toward cities for work can live in apartment. Consequently, people that worked in large cities and they cannot live their family alone in villages so, they live with their children. This clearly demonstrates that living in large cities children can grow there and get higher education from schools.

On the other hand, apartment blocks should also be taken into account. The main reason is that due huge families lived in one apartment which can result in their is no privacy of families remained and due to the small grounds, some children cannot play together. There are some more reason such as lack of water storage, lack of space for play. Therefore, although this issue has some potential benefits it provide place for living. Mostly women cooked together and lived as a family.

In conclusion, tall apartment block has both positive and negative aspects. However, I believe that tall apartment block provide homes to people because those who cannot afford and wanted to live in cities is beneficial. Overall, a balanced approach is essential to maximize the benefits while minimize the possible drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The student takes a clear position, stating that they agree because it helps people who cannot afford houses. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes confused. For instance, the discussion in the second paragraph mentions people moving for work and living with children, but the reasoning is disjointed. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the arguments lack depth and rely on over-generalised or repetitive points, such as stating multiple times that tall blocks provide homes for those who cannot afford them. Overall, the response corresponds to a Band 5.0 level of task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to organise the essay into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by poor referencing and mechanical or inaccurate cohesive devices. For example, transitions like 'Consequently' and 'Therefore' are used incorrectly or inappropriately to link unrelated ideas. Pronoun referencing is also frequently unclear, as seen in phrases like 'due huge families lived in one apartment which can result in their is no privacy'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak, leading to a choppy and sometimes confusing reading experience. This aligns with a Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive throughout the essay. The student frequently recycles phrases like 'tall apartment blocks', 'large cities', and 'enough homes' without demonstrating a wide range of lexical items. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'building block apartment', 'due huge families lived', and 'lack of water storage'. Furthermore, morphological errors like 'mostly people' instead of 'most people' and 'cooked together' detract from lexical control. While the meaning is occasionally communicated, the vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate, placing it at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there is no privacy of families remained' and 'mostly people cannot afford enough money'). Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and missing commas causing confusion, such as in the sentence 'People that worked in large cities and they cannot live their family alone in villages so, they live with their children.' These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5.0 performance.
