Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that the best method to provide enough houses in cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I parly agree and disagree with this statement because private home provide more stability espacially, other people cannot disturde, no noise and people no need to pay rent. However, apartment block help to control the large population in small area and security can be better.

There are two main reason why I agree with this statement. Firstly, when people live own house anybody cannot disturb them and no noise in this area they can easily focus their work and study. For example some people cannot go to job they work at home in apartment they cannot focus in their tasks, compared with they focus on their work at home. However, In private homes people no need to pay rent, whereas in apartment people pay to mach rent and other charges like parking, lift etc.

On the other hand I believe that apartment is important for cities because nowaday to much population in cities and covered the large area because the ratio of homes to much as compare the apartments. when government build the tall aparment blocks then they can easily control the people and covered small space compared the houses. Futhermore In aparment, their is no issuse to security. In apartment security can be better.

In conclusion, that why I parly agree and disagree with this statement but private homes have a many positive points like privacy, no rent compared with better security, small area covered at apartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing both the advantages of private homes and tall apartment blocks, presenting a partial agreement stance. However, the development of ideas is heavily constrained by limited elaboration and some unclear reasoning, such as the comparison between working at home and in apartments. While the writer outlines reasons related to privacy, cost, population control, and security, these ideas remain somewhat underdeveloped and repetitive, particularly in the conclusion. The response touches upon all parts of the prompt, but the position is not consistently clear throughout due to abrupt shifts and overlapping arguments. This performance aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed only partially with limited and under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a conventional essay structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentences, such as 'For example some people cannot go to job they work at home in apartment they cannot focus in their tasks'. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used inaccurately, leading to mechanical connections between sentences. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak, as sentences often lack clear logical links to one another. Referencing is also problematic at times, making it difficult to follow the precise argument. These features reflect the characteristics of Band 5, where there is some organisation but a lack of clear overall progression and faulty cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'homes', 'apartment', 'people', 'good', and 'bad'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'parly', 'espacially', 'disturde', 'mach', 'nowaday', and 'aparment'. While the student attempts to use some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'stability', 'security', and 'population', inaccuracies in word formation and collocation are noticeable. These lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede the smooth flow of information. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5 descriptors where noticeable errors and limited control of word choice are evident.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. The student relies heavily on simple sentences and makes frequent attempts at complex sentences, but these are almost always faulty, lacking proper subordination or punctuation. There are constant errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('apartment block help'), missing articles ('in small area', 'in apartment'), incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is largely neglected, resulting in run-on sentences and fragmented clauses. Although the meaning can sometimes be deciphered with effort, frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to a Band 5 score, characterised by a limited range of structures and frequent errors that hinder clarity.
