Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes i agree with the statment that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall appartment. The tall appartment occupies small amount of land. The appartments are cheaper than buying a house.

If we look nowadays,The agriculture sector is comming to its end because many families are building their own houses. So if every one start building their own house so it will occoupie more land . When it occoupie more land so agriculture will comes to its end.The Agriculture sector is the back bone of every country for thier economics. Now if we make a tall buillding thousands of families can live there easily and it will occupie small amount of land.

In current sitiutions of every country buillding a house cost more than buying a flat.Nowadays construction materails way more expensive,so way more people prefere buying a flat than building a house. Its is also very use full for the middle class and poor peoples because flats are more affordable than buying a house.

In cities there is very difficulty of land because the cities are develop and maximum amount of land is used .The remaning land is too less for every one to build there own house so if we make tall appartments many peoples can live in it easily.

My cousin who came to our city last year cant afford a personal house because the prices of houses are way more expensive than buying a house in village. My father give him the adivice of flat because the flats are cheaper then the houses .Then he took the advice of my father and start living in the flat.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating an opinion in agreement with the statement that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The response covers relevant ideas, such as land conservation, the protection of the agriculture sector, and economic advantages regarding construction costs and affordability for middle-class and poor people. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on simple assertions. The inclusion of a personal example involving a cousin adds some support, though it is framed simply. The main task is addressed, but the extension of ideas lacks the depth required for higher bands, placing this performance at a Band 5.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organizational structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing distinct points (agriculture, cost, and land scarcity), and a brief supporting example. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and sophisticated cohesive devices. Transition words are very basic or missing entirely, resulting in a disjointed flow between sentences, such as moving abruptly from land use to construction materials. Paragraphing is attempted, but paragraph boundaries and internal logic are sometimes faulty. Referencing and substitution are also repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'the appartments' or 'building a house'. These issues reflect Band 5.0 characteristics where cohesion is inadequate and mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which is characteristic of a Band 5.0 response. The student relies on basic terms such as 'house', 'flat', 'land', and 'cities', repeating them frequently throughout the text. There are also noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'statment' instead of statement, 'appartment' instead of apartment, 'comming' instead of coming, 'occoupie' instead of occupy, 'sitiutions' instead of situations, 'materails' instead of materials, 'use full' instead of useful, 'peoples' instead of people, and 'remaning' instead of remaining. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences, and attempts at complex structures are either absent or faulty, such as in the conditional sentence 'So if every one start building their own house so it will occoupie more land'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'agriculture will comes', 'every one start'), articles (e.g., 'in current sitiutions'), and punctuation. These frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to Band 4.5 or 5.0, with Band 5.0 fitting best due to the comprehensibility of the overall message despite the errors.
