Student answer (Band 5.5)

it is often argued that the better way to provide adequate accommodation in urban areas by tower blocks . While some people disagree with this viewpoint, I strongly agree with this statement because the cities are already populated space and the land is limited there and every facilities are available in societies .

one of the strongest reasons why I agree with this viewpoint is that there are limited space in cities . this is primarily because the individuals who lived in slums migrate the urban side day by day and start their career in cities and utilize the land of cities. As a result , the land is scarce in town . Consequently this can not only the start their business in city but also they all are living in urban areas. For instance , According to recent survey London is one of the most successful city in the world but it is also over populated city due to only that people of different countries go there and start their business and at the end settled there.

another equally compelling justification for my position is all the resources are available in one roof . this is mainly because in tall apartment many individuals are lived with together and also there is commercial area in this apartment site so everything which are need for human being are available in one area . As a result huge apartments are significant . Foe example , the world huge mall is dolmen mall everything are accessible in one roof .

in conclusion , I firmly agree with this view that build a tall apartments in urban areas this is primarily because the land is finite and all the facilities are available in cities . therefore , in my perception this is the best way .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt directly and takes a clear, consistent position agreeing with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. Main ideas are presented, such as limited land availability and the concentration of resources and facilities. However, the development of these ideas lacks depth and clarity in places, often relying on repetitive statements or slightly confused reasoning rather than fully extended arguments. For example, the explanation regarding people migrating from slums and utilizing urban land is somewhat unclear and difficult to follow. Furthermore, the examples provided, such as mentioning Dolmen Mall to illustrate residential living in apartment blocks, are slightly weak or off-point. Overall, the task is addressed, but the support and extension of ideas remain at a level consistent with Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement, following a standard four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division of ideas could be sharper. Cohesive devices and transition markers are used throughout, but they are often mechanical, repetitive, or punctuated incorrectly, as seen in phrases like 'one of the strongest reasons why I agree with this viewpoint is that' followed by lower-case sentence beginnings, and 'another equally compelling justification'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns where the antecedent is ambiguous. While the logical progression of the essay is understandable, the frequent mechanical cohesion and awkward transitions prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'adequate accommodation', 'scarce', 'compelling justification', and 'finite'. However, there are frequent noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing throughout the text. Examples include 'every facilities are available' instead of 'all facilities', 'there are limited space' instead of 'there is limited space', and 'the world huge mall' instead of 'the world's largest mall'. Furthermore, spelling and capitalization errors are common, such as beginning sentences with lower-case letters ('it is often argued', 'one of the strongest'). These lexical inaccuracies and mechanical errors constrain the range and occasionally cause the reader some difficulty, placing the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate conjunctions such as 'While some people disagree with this viewpoint, I strongly agree...' and 'this is primarily because the individuals who lived in slums migrate...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors occurring across both simple and complex structures. Noticeable errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('every facilities are available', 'all the resources are available', 'many individuals are lived with together'), incorrect pluralization ('tall a apartments'), and pervasive punctuation errors, most notably a lack of proper capitalization at the beginning of sentences and incorrect spacing around commas. These recurring errors mean that error-free sentences are in the minority, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
