Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era of urbanisation, the demand of accomodation has been increasing everyday. To complete the needs of homes, flats and smart homes are the crucial way to provide enough space for living in urban areas. I completely agree with this notion and i will discuss my views in forthcoming paragraphs before going to a well suited conclusion.

To begin with flats and smart blocks or apartments are very popular place to live in metro cities which is well known for their opportunities and crowded areas. To explict this, although big cities gave jobs, better living standards but the public attractions to these places led to the shortage of accomodation. Additionally, the overcrowded colonies does not compete with the facilities provided by the flats managements. To resolve this issue, flats provided a better opportunity for those people who wanted to migrate in the big cities and keen to have a home according to their taste. It also gives several benefits for people, for instance, the people living in flats can socialise to each others at the time of needs. Also it has a management team who decided rules and regulations for better living approach and security for its people.

Further shifted towards to another benefits, flats and apartments are much affordable comparing to colonies or other living areas of urban cities. The expenditure for construction is relatively less, therefore the buyers can easily afford these types of homes in big cities. To examplify form data, The times of india posted an article few months ago, which shows that around thirty five percent of total global population rated positive to flats or apartments in the terms of affordability in large or metro cities.

To conclude it, i completely agree with the above notion by considering the evidence and implications. It is clear that this perspective is crucial for building a better accomodation in the large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing shortages. The response includes relevant ideas, such as the benefits of community living, security, and affordability. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or expressed with vague reasoning, such as 'the overcrowded colonies does not compete with the facilities provided by the flats managements.' While the arguments are generally relevant and supported with a claimed example from a newspaper, the overall depth of task response places this firmly in the Band 6 territory. The position is maintained throughout, fulfilling the basic requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the argument. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'Further shifted towards to another benefits' are awkward and indicate unnatural transitions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'To explict this' or jumping between singular and plural references for 'flat' and 'flats'. While logical organisation is present, the repetitive use of formulaic transitional phrases keeps the score at Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'urbanisation', 'affordability', and 'implications'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'accomodation' (accommodation), 'explict' (explain/elucidate), 'examplify' (exemplify), and 'form data' (from data). The collocation 'flats managements' is also unnatural. These inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the score to Band 6, as the vocabulary range lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the overcrowded colonies does not compete'), incorrect prepositions ('shifted towards to another benefits'), and punctuation/capitalisation lapses ('i completely agree'). There are also awkward phrasing patterns like 'the demand of accomodation has been increasing everyday.' Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded, aligning well with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 profile, rounded to 6.0 for a decent mix of structures.
