Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most suitable way to accomodate people in large cities is to build tall apartments. And i agree with this statement, as I've experienced living in large cities like Makkah, Karachi, Doha etc. The large cities are the single place for most of the opportunities either for the businesses, workers, students or anyother sort of people. To accomodate such large number of people in a single city can be very nerve-cracking. People can be provided either single homes or apartments to fit number of families covering up less space. If we think beyond just space there are numerousn factors that could be included one of the crucial factor is resources, let's take example of apartment building, it covers up same area as single mansion or villa, villa accomodates single family, while apartment building might hold tenners of families, single villa will have to acquire standalone security, services, electricity, water and all that, while in apartment buildings it's all shared.

There's another view of this statement, if people like to live in villa rather than apartment then it's better for the government in some aspect like the property tax from these villas, generating revenue by providing facilties in such towns. And in my perspective, mostly the cities look attractive with villas more than tall buildings. But ultimately, tall buildings are the main source to accomodate large number of people in big cities.

Concluding all, the best way to accomodate large number of people is to build tall apartment buildings especially in cities like Tokyo, Karachi, Mumbai, Delhi, Doha, Dubai.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear position that you agree with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as comparing the resource efficiency of villas versus apartment blocks in cities like Makkah, Karachi, and Doha. However, the reasoning tends to be somewhat conversational and anecdotal, and the counter-argument about property taxes and aesthetics is brief and slightly undeveloped. Furthermore, the phrasing 'tall apartments' is used instead of 'tall apartment blocks'. Nonetheless, the main position is sustained and the task requirements are adequately met, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where all parts of the task are addressed and a relevant position is presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, although the progression is occasionally disrupted by paragraphing and structural choices. The response is split into three paragraphs, with the first body paragraph being overly long and containing multiple shifting ideas ranging from economic opportunities to resource sharing. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be mechanical or colloquial, such as 'let's take example of' and 'Concluding all, the best way'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical transitions between sentences within the first main paragraph could be smoother to enhance readability and ensure a more cohesive flow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'nerve-cracking', 'standalone security', and 'property tax'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('accomodate' instead of 'accommodate', 'anyother', 'tenners' instead of 'tens') and occasional imprecise word choices ('numerousn'). While these lexical errors occur, they do not severely impede communication as the writer's meaning generally remains clear. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic arguments about urbanization and infrastructure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences, such as 'If we think beyond just space there are numerousn factors that could be included...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including run-on sentences ('And i agree with this statement, as I've experienced...'), missing articles ('take example of apartment building'), and capitalization issues ('i'). Punctuation is also weak, relying heavily on commas where full stops or conjunctions are needed. These errors cause some distraction and minor difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 5 category.
