Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer takes a clear, supportive stance and attempts to support their position with arguments concerning deforestation, environmental protection, and economic benefits. However, the development of these ideas is limited and often disjointed. For instance, the transition from discussing natural habitats to health issues, tax revenue, and the labor class feels rushed and lacks cohesive elaboration. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the ideas are somewhat under-developed and lack specific, well-reasoned examples, placing this performance at a Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a standard essay structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by poor referencing and weak logical links. Phrases such as 'Probing futher' are used awkwardly to signal transitions. Paragraphing is somewhat erratic, with the second body paragraph containing a massive run of disparate ideas—from green areas and pollution to health services, investment, tax revenue, and employment—without clear logical breaks. Cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or inadequate, resulting in a somewhat mechanical flow that makes the argument difficult to follow at times.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally strain the reader. Examples include 'sufficent' instead of sufficient, 'apartement' instead of apartment, 'eassy' instead of essay, 'socitiety' instead of society, 'incresing' instead of increasing, 'foresects' instead of forests, 'secentries' instead of sanctuaries, 'habibts' instead of habitats, and 'authourities' instead of authorities. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'deforestation' and 'investment', but the high density of lexical and spelling inaccuracies limits the vocabulary score to a Band 4.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or poorly constructed complex clauses linked together incorrectly with commas or run-on structures. Frequent grammatical errors include tense and verb-form mistakes, such as 'will being provided', subject-verb agreement issues, and missing articles. For instance, sentences like 'the main reasons is the state not have to not allow cut natural habibts' are ungrammatical and severely impede comprehension. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capitalisation, erratic spacing around punctuation marks, and fused sentences throughout the text.
