Student answer (Band 5.0)

I partly agree that building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide enough homes in large cities.

I strongly agree that it is an important role in the society to build the development.

One of the major advantage is that it would be constructed in less space and saves a lot of land. As the building constructed in the city and most of the people can live in this building, then its save the agriculture. Moreover, it is extremly benifical for citizen like children can play plenty of games there. Additionly, these places can be used in developments like parks.

Another main factor is that it can reduce the pollution in urban areas. Such as people would be prefer to the walking on the road that is much healthier than car driving. It may reduce the traffic issues. Furthermore, it will become a lot of relationship with other people just like building of the apartment blocks children can play different kind of games together. Olders can sit and talk together. That's an impact on the society because it is extremely exhausted for ecosystem.

In conclusion, tall apartment blocks can play an important role in meeting the housing needs of large cities, especially where land is scarce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities, presenting some relevant ideas such as saving land and reducing pollution. However, the position expressed in the introduction contradicts itself, stating both that the writer 'partly agree[s]' and 'strongly agree[s]' that it is an important role. Furthermore, the development of ideas is limited, repetitive, and lacks depth. Crucially, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 208 words, which imposes a strict ceiling on Task Achievement. Based on these limitations, the response meets the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, but overall progression is hindered by weak logical links and awkward paragraphing. For instance, the second paragraph consists of contradictory opening statements, and the fourth paragraph bizarrely links traffic reduction to social relationships and ecosystems. Cohesive devices are frequently mechanical or inaccurate, as seen with 'Additionly' and 'Such as people would be prefer to the walking'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal logic within paragraphs often breaks down, keeping the coherence at a Band 5 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, which is adequate only for a basic communicative purpose. There are numerous noticeable lexical and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'extremly benifical', 'additionly', 'prefer to the walking', and describing society as 'extremely exhausted for ecosystem'. While the student attempts some less common phrasing like 'agriculture' and 'urban areas', these are marred by imprecise collocations and awkward word choices that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this criterion at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including faulty verb patterns ('would be prefer to the walking', 'As the building constructed'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. Punctuation and sentence structures occasionally impede clarity, as demonstrated in awkward constructions like 'That's an impact on the society because it is extremely exhausted for ecosystem.' Despite these frequent errors, the meaning is usually retrievable, which aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors for grammar.
