Student answer (Band 5.0)

I partly agree that building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide enough homes in large cities.

I strongly agree that it is an important role in society to build the development.

One of the major advantages is that it would be constructed in less space and saves a lot of land. As the building constructed in the city and most of the people can live in this building, then its save the agriculture. Moreover, it is extremly benifical for citizen like children can play plenty of games there. Additionally, these places can be used in developments like parks.

Another main factor is that it can reduce the pollution in urban areas. Such as people would be prefer walking on roads that is much healthier than driving a car. It may reduce the traffic issues. Furthermore, it will become a lot of relationship with other people just like building of the apartment blocks children can play different kinds of games together. Olders can sit and talk together. That's an impact on society because it is extremely exhausting for the ecosystem.

In conclusion, tall apartment blocks can play an important role in meeting the housing needs of large cities, especially where land is scarce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partial agreement regarding tall apartment blocks. However, there is a clear contradiction in the writing: the first sentence states 'I partly agree,' while the second sentence immediately claims 'I strongly agree.' Furthermore, the minimum length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay contains only 205 words. Due to this significant under-length penalty and the lack of full idea development, the task response is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs, and basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Additionally,' and 'In conclusion' are utilized. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and repetitive language. For instance, the transition from saving agricultural land to children playing games and then back to pollution lacks smooth logical linkage. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is often faulty or mechanical, leading to an overall disjointed flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word choice inaccuracies. Examples include 'extremly benifical' instead of 'extremely beneficial,' 'citizen' instead of 'citizens,' and 'Olders' instead of 'elderly people' or 'older residents.' While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'ecosystem' and 'scarce,' the noticeable errors and limited lexical range restrict the score to this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex attempts are grammatically flawed. Examples of errors include 'it would be constructed in less space and saves a lot of land,' 'As the building constructed in the city,' and 'it will become a lot of relationship with other people.' These frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings cause some difficulty for the reader, although basic meaning generally remains accessible.
