Student answer (Band 5.0)

I partly agree that building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide enough homes in large cities.

I strongly agree that it is an important role in society to build the development.

One of the major advantages is that it would be constructed in less space and saves a lot of land. As the building is constructed in the city and most of the people can live in this building, then it saves the agriculture. Moreover, it is extremely benifical for citizens like children can play plenty of games there. Additionally, these places can be used in developments like parks.

Another main factor is that it can reduce the pollution in urban areas. Such as people would be prefer walking on roads that is much healthier than driving a car. It may reduce the traffic issues. Furthermore, it will become a lot of relationship with other people just like building of the apartment blocks children can play different kinds of games together. Olders can sit and talk together. That's an effect on society because it is extremely exhausting for the ecosystem.

In conclusion, tall apartment blocks can play an important role in meeting the housing needs of large cities, especially where land is scarce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages of tall apartment blocks, mentioning land conservation and pollution reduction. However, your position is slightly contradictory at the beginning, stating 'I partly agree' and immediately following with 'I strongly agree'. Furthermore, the response is under-length, containing only 206 words compared to the minimum 250-word requirement. This under-length impacts your ability to fully develop your ideas, leaving points such as community relationships and ecosystem impacts rather superficial and underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you clearly state a consistent position in the introduction, fully develop your body paragraphs with detailed explanations and examples, and always meet the 250-word minimum requirement for Task 2.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic logical organisation, with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing space saving and pollution reduction, and a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the second body paragraph mixes several distinct ideas ranging from traffic reduction to children playing and ecosystem strain, making the flow disjointed. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as 'Such as people would be prefer' and 'Furthermore, it will become a lot of relationship'. Reference words and pronouns are not always clear in their intent. To improve, group related ideas into distinct, well-structured paragraphs and use a wider range of cohesive devices naturally to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for expressing basic ideas, but it contains noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'benifical' instead of beneficial, and 'Olders' instead of older adults or senior citizens. You attempt some less common vocabulary like 'agriculture' and 'ecosystem', but collocation and phrasing are often awkward, for instance, 'saves the agriculture' and 'it will become a lot of relationship'. The range of vocabulary is limited and sometimes repetitive. To score higher, focus on accurate spelling, precise word choices, and learning common collocations associated with urban development and housing topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples include 'people would be prefer walking' and 'As the building is constructed in the city and most of the people can live in this building, then it saves the agriculture', which demonstrate poor control over verb tenses and clause structures. Punctuation and article usage also need attention. While the meaning can generally be understood despite the errors, the frequency of grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, review verb patterns after modal verbs, avoid unnecessary conjunctions like 'then' in conditional or causal clauses, and check your sentences for basic agreement.
