Student answer (Band 5.0)

I partly agree that building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide enough homes in large cities.

I strongly agree that it is important role in society to build the development.

One of the major advantages is that it would constructed in less space and saves a lot of land. As the building is constructed in the city and most of the people can live in this building, then it saves agricultural land. Moreover, it is extremely benificial for citizens such as children can play plenty of games there. Additionally, these places can be used in developments like parks.

Another main factor is that it can reduce the pollution in urban areas. Such as people would be prefer walking on roads that is much healthier than driving a car. It may reduce the traffic issues. Furthermore, it will become a lot of relationship with other people just like building of the apartment blocks children can play different kinds of games together. Olders can sit and talk together. That's an effect on society because it is extremely exhausting for the ecosystem.

In conclusion, tall apartment blocks can play an important role in meeting the housing needs of large cities, especially where land is scarce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing the advantages of tall apartment blocks, mentioning land conservation and pollution reduction. However, the response suffers from a significant drawback: it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 205 words. Due to this under-length, the development of ideas is limited and remains somewhat superficial. While the opening states a partial agreement, the subsequent body paragraphs lack fully extended arguments and fail to explore both sides deeply or provide sufficient, well-supported examples. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some basic organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and unclear referencing. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Moreover' and 'Additionally' are used, but the connection between sentences often feels disjointed, as seen in the sudden shift from children playing games to the impact on the ecosystem. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is mechanical and sometimes faulty, which affects the overall readability of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are attempts to use topic-related terms such as 'agricultural land,' 'urban areas,' and 'ecosystem.' However, noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations occur throughout the text, such as 'it would constructed' and 'it will become a lot of relationship.' Furthermore, spelling errors like 'benificial' detract from the quality. The vocabulary is basic and repetitive in places, causing some minor difficulty for the reader and capping the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing auxiliary verbs ('it would constructed'), incorrect prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement ('Olders can sit'). Complex sentences are often attempted with relative clauses or conditional elements, but these frequently contain errors that cause difficulty for the reader. While communication is not entirely obscured, the high frequency of structural and punctuation mistakes places this writing firmly within the Band 5 descriptor range.
