Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is believed that building apartments vertically is the best option to provide good amount of homes in metropolitan cities. I am totally inclined to this as building tall apartment blocks not only provide enough number of house but it also help in conservation of land.
In large cities compared to smaller, there are more job opportunities, better educational institutions and other basic facilities. So people move to these cities in order to have better life. As large number of people move to large cities for jobs or education there must be a need to build more houses. In order to accomodate this large number vertical housing is best. In Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, vertical housing societies were introduced so that large number of peoples can be accommodated without effecting the fertile land. This initiative was a great success.
Other benefit of building vertically is that more land is available for agriculture and parks. Parks and other such open places hold importance in term that people can forget their stress while sitting in nature. On the other hand, more of the fertile soil will be conserved when building vertically. More fertile soil mean more natural products such as crops, fruits and, vegetable. All these have health benefits aswell. In the vertical hosing scheme of Islamabad there were number of parks and other recreational spots were also preserved.
To conclude this, according to my point of view, tall building apartments not only provide enough number of houses for the people in densly populated cities but also help to protect fertile land so that more benefits can be taken from it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly presenting a position in favour of tall apartment blocks and extending this with relevant ideas. The writer takes a clear stance in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay. Ideas regarding urban migration, land conservation, and the provision of recreational spaces are appropriately supported by a specific example from Islamabad, Pakistan. However, some arguments lack deeper elaboration; for instance, the link between vertical housing and agricultural productivity could be more fully developed to reach higher band levels. Nevertheless, the position is well-supported and directly addresses the prompt. This performance aligns comfortably with the descriptors for Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The writer uses cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'To conclude this', and 'Other benefit' to guide the reader through the arguments, though some of these cohesive links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('In the vertical hosing scheme of Islamabad'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and referencing is generally clear. Minor slips in cohesion do not obscure the logical flow of ideas, placing the response securely in the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, with Band 7.0 being the most appropriate fit given the overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'metropolitan cities', 'conservation of land', and 'recreational spots'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'accomodate' instead of 'accommodate', 'densly' instead of 'densely', and awkward phrasing like 'good amount of homes' and 'natural products'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The writer shows some awareness of style and collocation, but occasional slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the lexical control matches the requirements for Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'As large number of people move to large cities... there must be a need'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly concerning article usage ('provide good amount', 'in term that'), singular/plural agreement ('large number of peoples', 'tall building apartments'), and missing prepositions or auxiliary verbs ('it also help', 'there were number of parks'). While these errors are noticeable and require some effort from the reader to parse, they rarely impede overall communication. The mix of structures and frequency of errors place this writing firmly at Band 6.0.
