Student answer (Band 4.5)

yes i fully agree with the statement . it is the best way to provide homes in larger cities to build apartment blocks because it give way more space then if a regular house was build in that space . It also give benifits to the people as well as the owner of the flats . you can pretty much afford the flat instead of a house that can be way more expensive even in purchasing cost . for instance there was a house in my neighbor that costs 50k rs for one portion but as compared to the apartment it comes under 25k it is well suited for middle class families so people can also live and bear their finances easily. although there are some short stay apartment that can also provide very much flexibility for tourists or visitors that came there for any reason but they do not have to stay full . as a result yes it also provides more homes as well as some earning opportunities to the landlord of the apartments . it also supports the economy of the country you can have 100+ peoples living in the same place instead of 10 . some people also use the apartment for different purposes that can be like opening offices some offer tuition classes and many more so the apartment block make more opportunities to the youth with low cost then we should obviously go for the apartment blocks instead of average houses that people still cant get rid off

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement ('yes i fully agree with the statement'). The candidate provides some relevant ideas, such as space efficiency, affordability, economic support, and alternative uses for apartments like offices or tuition classes. However, these ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, lacking deep elaboration. The example given ('for instance there was a house in my neighbor that costs 50k rs...') is specific but anecdotal and brief. Furthermore, the response tends to over-generalise without sufficient academic backing or wider exploration of urban planning challenges. Because all parts of the task are addressed with a clear position, but the ideas remain somewhat basic and under-developed, the response fits the Band 5 descriptors well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text suffers from a major structural issue regarding paragraphing: it is written as one single, continuous block of text without any paragraph breaks. This severely hampers the logical organisation and overall progression expected in an Academic essay. Cohesive devices are minimal, basic, and often repetitive ('it also', 'as a result', 'so'), leading to a somewhat mechanical flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of distinct paragraphs makes the progression difficult to follow. While there is an underlying logical sequence moving from cost benefits to tourism and economic impacts, the absence of appropriate paragraphing and the limited, repetitive use of cohesive devices place this response firmly at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary ('space', 'house', 'apartment', 'cost', 'people'). There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'short stay apartment', 'came there', and phrases like 'bear their finances easily' which sound unnatural. Spelling errors also occur (e.g., 'benifits', 'peoples', 'cant'). Although the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning about housing and costs, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items mean it does not reach the standard for Band 6. It aligns best with Band 5 due to the noticeable errors and restricted range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting primarily of simple and compound sentences strung together with coordinating conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty or run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation. There is a total absence of capitalisation and proper punctuation marks, creating one long, unpunctuated sentence flow. Frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it give way', 'tourists or visitors that came... but they do not have to stay'), and article usage cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times. This corresponds to a Band 4.0 for grammar and accuracy.
