Student answer (Band 5.0)

it is often argued that constructing tall building apartment blocks is the best approach to provide enough homes in large cities . i partially agree with this view this is because building tall aparment blocks can accomodate more people but it can also effect other housing areas.

building tall apartment blocks in larger cities is beneficial approach for the people it will accomodate more people in a less space , More people will be facilitate with the blocks as it will be cost effective for them.

For example , tall apartments will be available for more families without having to demand more land , they can live in tall apartment blocks all togather.

Building tall apartment blocks in larger cities is not effective i have this view becuase fitting much people in a signle tall building is kinda challanging and it will be overcrowding . there will be lot of other problems too.

For example building tall apartment blocks is not just enough you have to provide large parking areas and it can put pressure on other urban areas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks, presenting a clear partial position. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The essay is significantly under length, containing only 179 words compared to the required 250-word minimum. This limitation directly impacts the fullness of task fulfillment, restricting the overall development of arguments regarding urban housing solutions. Consequently, the performance aligns most closely with Band 5 descriptors for Task Achievement due to the limited and underdeveloped nature of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some basic organization, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and concluding thoughts. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and cohesive devices are inadequate or repetitive. For example, sentences within paragraphs lack smooth transitions, relying heavily on simple conjunctions or starting new points abruptly without clear logical progression. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shifts and disjointed examples provided in the body paragraphs. Overall arrangement exists, but the mechanical and faulty cohesion restricts the text to a Band 5 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about housing and cities, featuring terms like 'apartment blocks', 'accommodate', and 'cost effective'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'aparment', 'effect' instead of 'affect', 'togather', 'much people' instead of 'many people', and 'signle'. These errors, along with a lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items, mean the vocabulary remains basic and repetitive, fitting the Band 5 descriptor criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. Frequent grammatical errors, punctuation omissions, and run-on sentences occur throughout the text, such as 'it is often argued that constructing tall building apartment blocks is the best approach to provide enough homes in large cities . i partially agree with this view this is because...' Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and missing capitalization further reduces grammatical accuracy. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, matching the profile for Band 5.
