Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely considered that the ideal way to tackle the scarcity of the houses is investing in the construction of high-rise apartment building. I completely agree with this statment becasue it not only provides shelter to homeless poeple but also contributes to urban development in cities
It is a fundamental necessity for every indivdual to have shelter. As many cities face shortage of land area to build row houses, developing tall apartment blocks can save manpower, building area and significantly reduce the funds required for this opertation. For an example, in recent years shortage of land has been a major obstacle for urban development in densely populated metropolises such as asia and europe. By shifting the focus towards vertical architecture, cities can maximazie the capacity of a single piece of land.
Futhermore, high-rise buildings are crusical for accomodating exponential grown in urban propulation. Instead of pushing cities outwards, which also destroys biodiversity. High rise aparmtments can can allow urban areas grow more compactly. This type of infrastructure can ease governement in providing better facilities such as water supply, transport networks and better waste management systems. To cite an example high-rise building developemt in cities like tokyo or shangai opened paths for urban renewal.
Admittedly, crities may argue that skyscrapers can block natural sunlight, causing sense of confinment, Or restrain local neighbourhood feeling, these challenges can be defeated by advance architecture planning such as rooftop gardens, green spaces.
In conclusion, while urban development in traditional ways can also eradicate the problem of homelessness faced by cities, In my opinion tall building aparments remain the most practical solution to this problem as it benefits both the poeple and the government

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear, well-developed position in agreement with the statement. The writer introduces relevant ideas, such as maximizing land capacity, accommodating urban population growth, and easing the government's provision of public facilities. The body paragraphs are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as referencing densely populated regions in Asia and Europe, as well as specific cities like Tokyo and Shanghai. Counterarguments are also briefly addressed and refuted. The ideas are cohesive and logically follow a continuous line of reasoning throughout the essay, demonstrating a clear focus on the prompt from the introductory statement to the conclusion, thereby fulfilling the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is adequately paragraphed, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic, such as land scarcity, population growth, and potential drawbacks. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Instead of', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions and referencing could be smoother. For instance, the transition into the counterargument paragraph ('Admittedly, crities may argue...') lacks full integration and punctuation control. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the overall argument, but occasional mechanical transitions prevent the text from achieving a higher band score, placing it comfortably at Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on available increments, or solid Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'scarcity', 'vertical architecture', 'maximazie', 'biodiversity', and 'confinment'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'statment', 'becasue', 'poeple', 'indivdual', 'opertation', 'crusical', 'accomodating', 'grown', 'propulation', 'aparmtments', 'governement', 'developemt', 'crities', 'advance', and 'building aparments'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 7. The writer shows an awareness of style and topic-specific lexis, but slips in accuracy constrain the score to a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues that persist. Examples include missing articles ('tackle the scarcity of the houses'), subject-verb agreement issues ('tall building aparments remain'), capitalization errors, and run-on sentences or comma splices, such as 'causing sense of confinment, Or restrain local neighbourhood feeling, these challenges can be defeated...'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains comprehensible, and the mix of structures demonstrates a sufficient range for a Band 6, where some errors are present but communication is rarely impeded.
