Student answer (Band 5.5)

Development is the basic need of every nation. It has been put forward that providing tall apartment blocks is the best method to build enough homes in metropolis.I agree with this stance and will discuss reason in upcomg paragraphs.

The predominant reason why tall apartment blocks should be build in big cities is that it would be a better use of using space for land. For instance, in metropolis cities there is not much land area due to lot of infrastructure and buildings such as offices, banks, restraunts. So building the apartment vertical instead of horizontally would make less usage of land area on ground which will also be the cost effective. Moreover, it would enhance the look of infrastructure of city. A good illustration of that is that today almost every country is developed and has lots of tall buildings and skyscapers in cities which present the economy growth and improve look of buildinds with tall structure, shiny glasses with high-tech technology and lot more not onlt that masses will prefer to live in these types of flats as they look good and amazing.

In contrast to, build tall apartment block is not the best method to provide homes to general public this is because. Firstly, it would be difficult for individuals to live in such tall floors in summer as there would be so hot temperature because of high altitude and sharp sunrays toward top floors and a person would be unable to live in that floors and could soon leave the buildins because of heat then buildins will have no further use which will consequnces in loss as these buldings needs heavy funds to maintain.

To conclude it, from the aformentioned statement it can be concluded that building tall buildings is good use to save land area and better look of infrastructure but it could be useless at certain situtations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, presenting a clear position that agrees with the statement. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding land usage and cost-effectiveness is stated simply without sufficient expansion. While the writer attempts to present a counterargument in the third paragraph, the reasoning becomes convoluted and repetitive regarding summer temperatures and maintenance costs. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all ideas more thoroughly with robust explanations and specific real-world examples, ensuring that both sides of the prompt are fully explored without abrupt or confused reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the structure of the essay, with attempts to divide ideas into introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, such as 'In contrast to, build tall apartment block is not the best method...'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, and referencing between sentences can be unclear. Paragraphing is utilised, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs feels mechanical and repetitive. To achieve a higher standard, the writer must ensure that sentences flow logically from one to the next, using appropriate cohesive markers naturally and maintaining a clear progression of ideas throughout the entire essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about housing and cities. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'metropolis cities', 'build the apartment vertical', 'consequnces in loss', and 'aformentioned'. The writer attempts to use some less common vocabulary items like 'skyscapers' and 'infrastructure', but spelling and morphological errors are frequent. To improve in this criterion, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to correct word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes to ensure smoother communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and singular/plural agreement. Examples of grammatical lapses include 'should be build', 'use of using space', 'tall apartment block is not the best method', and 'at certain situtations'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and commas. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex structures, maintain better control over basic grammatical patterns, and improve accuracy in verb tenses and article usage.
