Student answer (Band 5.0)

This is a best way for providing enough homes by building tall apaetment blocks in large cities. Nowadays, many large cities facing a difficulty for housing shortages due to repaid growth in popullation. Some people believe that constructing tall apartment blocks is a effective way to provide enough homes for residants. I completely agree with this statement.

At first, building tall apartment blocks is an efficent solution because it takes less land and allows more people to live in convinent locations. In many cities have successfully used to constuct high-rise buildings as it can accommodates hundreds of families to live in small land. Furthermore, goverment can provide more homes to live without expanding the city into surrounding countrysides.

On the other hand, high-rise buildings are often constructed near to workplaces, schools, hospitals and public transport. So, it gives many facilities to residants. For example, it allows residants to access to many services.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Crucially, the response is incomplete, containing only 157 words, which falls well short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Because of this severe length deficit, the task is addressed only partially. The writer manages to express a clear position ('I completely agree with this statement') and presents some relevant ideas, such as saving land and providing proximity to urban amenities. However, these points remain limited and under-developed due to the truncated length and the abrupt ending ('In concluion, i agree wi'). To improve, the student must expand their ideas significantly, provide fuller explanations, and ensure the essay reaches the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the overall progression of ideas is hindered by the abrupt cut-off at the end of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a basic and repetitive manner, such as 'At first,' 'Furthermore,' and 'On the other hand,' which sometimes do not connect the arguments logically—for instance, 'On the other hand' is misused to introduce a supporting point rather than a contrasting one. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical nature of the cohesive links prevents the essay from flowing smoothly. To move up, the student needs to use a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately and ensure that paragraphs logically develop and transition into one another.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common words, such as 'shortages', 'surrounding', and 'workplaces', but these are undermined by frequent spelling and word-choice errors, including 'apaetment' instead of apartment, 'repaid' for rapid, 'popullation', 'efficent', 'convinent', 'constuct', 'accommodates' (misused grammatically), 'goverment', 'residants', and 'concluion'. These noticeable lexical and orthographic errors cause some distraction for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, improve precision in word choice, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on simple and basic complex structures, such as 'Some people believe that...' and 'It allows residents to...'. Attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'many large cities facing' instead of are facing, missing articles such as 'is a effective way' instead of an effective way, and faulty prepositional phrasing like 'near to' instead of near. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, and punctuation is incomplete due to the unfinished final sentence. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy and control over basic grammatical rules.
