Student answer (Band 5.0)
Large countries around the world are facing increasing pressure to provide enough housing for their growing population. Some people believe that tall apartments are suitable for many people who live in the city with limited space. While high-rising building are places where people can work in an office and work in other cities. I believe that it is a solution for broader housing rather than living a comfortable life.
A tall apartment is also located in the city; it is the best solution to live in the city with all the facilities and live densely in those areas with a high-rise population, and the value of the building is so expansive. For example, in Hong Kong and Singapore, these countries can provide accommodation to the public in large buildings. They can build their houses upward instead of outward. These tall apartments are located near cities where you can meet your daily needs, like school, hospitals, local transport, and your workplace.
However, large buildings can cause many problems for people if you live in overcrowded areas and face traffic congestion when people choose to live in urban areas. Families have a wish to live in a house with a large garden, have no noise, and live comfortably with their children.
In my opinion, high-rise buildings are best for people who live together and have a small place. I advise you to have a construction in suburban areas; it is a less noisy place and has peace and all facilities.
In conclusion, large buildings are mostly constructed in cities, such as on streets, and people have a lot of stress who live in these house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a position that is not always clear throughout the essay. While the writer touches upon the topic of tall apartment blocks in large cities, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the introduction mentions that high-rise buildings are places where people work, which is somewhat confusing in the context of residential housing. Throughout the body paragraphs, points regarding convenience, such as proximity to schools and hospitals, are introduced but not adequately supported or extended. The conclusion introduces a new idea about suburban construction rather than effectively summarising the main arguments presented. To improve further, the writer needs to ensure a well-developed position with clear, fully elaborated arguments that directly answer every part of the prompt without introducing tangential points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident in the essay, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted. For example, the transition from discussing urban convenience in the second paragraph to the drawbacks in the third paragraph feels abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'However' and 'In conclusion' where they do not logically tie the preceding thoughts together. Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly with pronouns like 'it' and 'you' referring back to places or people inconsistently. To achieve a higher level, the writer must ensure that ideas are logically sequenced with smoother, more precise transitional markers and maintain a consistent focus throughout each paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'traffic congestion' and 'accommodation', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that cause some difficulty for the reader. For instance, phrases like 'the value of the building is so expansive' instead of expensive, and 'high-rise population' instead of high-density population, demonstrate a lack of precision. Additionally, there are awkward phrasings such as 'have a wish to live' instead of desire. To progress to the next level, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to natural collocations and precise word forms to ensure clear and accurate communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text that can cause difficulty for the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'high-rising building are', incorrect article usage, and awkward prepositional phrases like 'construction in suburban areas' when referring to building houses. Furthermore, shifts in pronoun usage, such as switching from third-person plurals to addressing the reader directly as 'you' in sentences like 'if you live in overcrowded areas', disrupt grammatical consistency. To improve, the writer should practice forming complex sentences accurately and focus on eliminating basic errors in agreement, articles, and sentence structure.
