Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt regarding tall apartment blocks as a solution for providing homes in large cities, presenting a clear position of agreement. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, placing the response at this level. While the writer mentions land preservation, environmental issues, and community relationships, these points lack deep elaboration or concrete data. For instance, the discussion on sharing children's items and security systems in the third paragraph is somewhat generalised and lacks extension. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide more fully elaborated arguments and support main points with more detailed explanations or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a clear attempt to organise the essay into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and the response demonstrates some overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is not always clear, and the connections between sentences can feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent transitions like 'Moving further' and 'To conclude, In big town'. Paragraphing is used, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks smooth management, making the flow somewhat mechanical. To achieve a higher level, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure logical transitions build a seamless progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic message about housing and cities. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the essay, such as 'bigest town', 'upcomming', 'becasue', 'aslo', and 'facillate', which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'deforest' and 'customs', but these are often used with inaccuracy. To reach a higher standard, the student needs to expand their lexical repertoire, improve spelling accuracy, and pay closer attention to natural word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tense consistency, articles, and prepositions, such as 'There are many people, who reckon that provide enough houses', 'if they build tall apartment blocks in cities have save enough money', and 'various religious live together'. These numerous errors cause frequent strain and difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and correctly employing complex grammatical structures with greater accuracy.
